Job Summary



The Design Engineer Intern will work closely with the project development team to drive the engineering process from conceptual design through final design and commissioning.The Design Engineer Intern will also support project budget & contract development, the interconnection process, permitting, construction, testing, and commissioning.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of DEG & utility scale solar systems. 
  • Assist with developing electrical construction documents using AutoCAD.
  • Collect the necessary data to complete utility interconnection applications and building permit applications.
  • Respond to construction RFI’s, interconnection issues, and general construction questions. 
  • Assist in developing preliminary electrical designs and detailed equipment specifications.
  • Coordinate activities between design firms, owners, clients, utilities, permit agencies, contractors, and equipment vendors.  
  • Travel to project sites from time to time to gather site-specific data, as required.
  • Perform site inspections, assessments, and analysis both from on-site data collection and network tools.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices, process improvements, and internal control documentation.
  • Assist with site specific production analysis based on approved designs utilizing PVsyst.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders.


Education and Experience 

  • Recent graduate or student with an engineering degree
  • 2+ years of coursework towards a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering.
  •  Energy engineering coursework (preferred)


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Teams, Word).
  • Experience using 2D drafting software (AutoCAD/BricsCAD, etc.)
  • Experience using 3D modelling software (Creo, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Experience using Google Earth Pro. (preferred)
  • Some travel (required).


Working Conditions:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment while on the construction sites.  The employee will be required to drive to work sites or in some cases fly when necessary.


This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.  Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
