About the role
We are seeking a strategic and highly experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations and integrity for our high-growth clients in the Ecommerce and SaaS sectors. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in Controller or senior leadership roles, with a proven ability to manage complex revenue recognition, scale accounting departments, and provide high-level financial strategy to stakeholders.
You will be responsible for the accuracy of global financial statements, the implementation of robust internal controls, and the optimization of a modern tech stack to drive business scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Oversight & Governance: Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes across a diverse portfolio, ensuring all financial reporting is strictly compliant with US GAAP.
- Strategic Revenue Management: Manage complex revenue recognition (ASC 606), deferred revenue, and reconciliation between sales platforms (Shopify) and accounting software (QuickBooks Online).
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the preparation of annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and cash flow projections, providing CEOs and founders with actionable financial intelligence.
- Internal Controls & Audit Readiness: Design and maintain a strong internal control environment. Ensure the organization is "audit-ready" and manage relationships with external auditors/tax specialists.
- Spend Management Architecture: Define and monitor corporate spend policies and accounts payable workflows using Ramp, ensuring optimal cash management and departmental accountability.
- Payroll Strategy & Compliance: Supervise payroll cycles, executive compensation, and benefits administration via Gusto, ensuring total compliance with multi-state tax regulations.
- KPI & Metric Reporting: Track and report on industry-specific metrics such as SaaS Unit Economics (CAC, LTV, MRR/ARR) and Ecommerce performance (Gross Margin, ROAS, Contribution Margin).
- Leadership & Team Growth: Act as a key strategic partner for the leadership team, mentoring junior accounting staff and optimizing the integration between Shopify, Ramp, Gusto, and QBO.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in Controller, Finance Manager, or Director of Accounting roles.
- Industry Expertise: Deep experience within the Ecommerce or SaaS sectors (solid grasp of inventory accounting, COGS, and recurring revenue models is mandatory).
- Technical Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and advanced knowledge of Shopify financial integrations.
- Tech Stack Expertise: Advanced experience managing spend management via Ramp and complex payroll via Gusto.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Expert knowledge of US GAAP, Nexus (Sales Tax), and international tax reporting requirements.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA, CMA, or MBA is highly preferred.
- Communication: Exceptional English communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial strategies to executive boards and investors.
