Abis

The Program Director provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for the facility, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered substance abuse treatment services aligned with Hygea Healthcare’s mission, values, and regulatory requirements. This role is responsible for driving clinical excellence, operational effectiveness, workforce stability, and continuous quality improvement across the site.


The Program Director serves as a key liaison between departments, executive leadership, and external stakeholders. Responsibilities include leading recruitment and retention efforts, overseeing quality improvement initiatives and data management, ensuring readiness for Joint Commission (JCHAO) and State surveys, and representing Hygea Healthcare in the community. This position has direct accountability for identifying and escalating significant risks, compliance concerns, and operational flags to the President.


Salary: $75k - $85k per year, commensurate with experience


What you'll do

Leadership, Operations & Governance

  • Plan, direct, and oversee managerial, operational, fiscal, and reporting functions of the facility.
  • Ensure adherence to Hygea Healthcare policies, procedures, budgets, and operational protocols.
  • Uphold patient and employee rights in accordance with agency, state, federal, and accreditation standards.
  • Assign staff responsibilities based on education, experience, competency, and defined job descriptions.
  • Serve as a visible, engaged leader promoting accountability, collaboration, and high performance.


Quality Improvement & Performance Management

  • Lead and execute site-specific Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives to improve patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and staff performance.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and analysis of QI dashboards, metrics, and performance data.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement and implement data-driven, innovative solutions.
  • Obtain feedback from staff, patients, and leadership and translate insights into actionable improvements.
  • Ensure timely, accurate documentation and reporting in alignment with quality improvement and accreditation standards.
  • Utilization and understanding of EMR systems, reporting, metrics, and auditing to support departments.

Accreditation, Regulatory Readiness & Risk Escalation

  • Spearhead preparation for and management of Joint Commission (JCHAO), State, and other regulatory surveys.
  • Maintain continuous survey readiness through proactive audits, staff education, and corrective action planning.
  • Serve as the primary site leader during surveys and inspections.
  • Identify major alerts, compliance risks, and operational flags, and promptly escalate significant issues to the President.
  • Apply proactive, strategic, and “out-of-the-box” problem-solving approaches to mitigate risk and drive sustainable solutions.

Recruitment, Retention & Workforce Development

  • Lead and support recruitment efforts for the entire facility and across all departments in collaboration with the Executive Team.
  • Support onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives.
  • Implement strategies to improve employee engagement, morale, and retention across the site.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance oversight to supervisory staff.

Supervision & Staffing

  • Provide direct oversight of all site staff, including supervision of Behavioral Health Technicians.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings and promote effective cross-departmental communication.
  • Support staff operationally as needed, including stepping in during high-need situations.
  • Conduct spot checks during weekends, evenings, and early mornings to ensure compliance, safety, and quality care.
  • Develop and maintain coverage schedules for all shifts and positions.

Community Engagement & Organizational Representation

  • Represent Hygea Healthcare professionally within the community and with external partners.
  • Attend external meetings, events, and community engagements alongside the President as needed.
  • Support marketing, outreach, and referral development efforts to strengthen the organization’s community presence.
  • Foster strong relationships with referral sources, stakeholders, and regulatory partners.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services field with 5 years management experience.
  • Master’s degree in a human services field with 2 years of management experience preferred. 
  • Ability to organize the organization’s services with other community resources.
  • Experience administering and providing services to individuals, families, and clients.
  • Experience working with individuals suffering from mental disorders and substance abuse is preferred.
  • Must maintain BLS certification and yearly PPD.
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with peers, manager, staff, patients, and their families.
  • Must have a value set consistent with a culture that is based upon respect, stewardship, connectedness, entrepreneurship, high ethical standards, and a passion to make a difference.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records and computer documentation systems and reporting.
  • Preferred experience managing operational budgets.
