About the Role

Sellers Dorsey is seeking a Healthcare Researcher to support the development of Sellers Dorsey’s value-based care product and client-facing work through researching healthcare metrics and defining their impact on patient outcomes, access to care and cost-efficiency. The Healthcare Researcher role is responsible for conducting meta-analyses, distilling and communicating findings in the following areas: healthcare quality measurement, health outcomes, health economics, healthcare workforce, public health and value-based healthcare models, and population health. The Healthcare Researcher will collaborate with Data Analytics and Visualization colleagues to incorporate evidence-based metrics into client-facing impact analytic products.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct meta-analyses of quality measures and outcomes used in Medicaid Directed Payment Programs and other value-based care models, with the goal of explaining the rationale behind and impact of these metrics. Conduct literature reviews of peer-reviewed journals, public datasets and other reputable sources to tell the story of why these metrics are important and the potential impact on population health and healthcare spending.
  • Distil and summarize findings for diverse audiences, including technical colleagues building product, consultants working with clients, healthcare providers and policymakers. Support VP of Data Analytics and Visualization Support Services in preparing/delivering presentation to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Data Governance and Content Management specialists to build and maintain a relational database of impact measures, with annual versioning and updating of content.
  • Research publicly available datasets, metrics, risk models, and collaborate with technical colleagues on requirements for building APIs (define requirements, costs, etc.).
  • Monitor the field of value-based care models and stay current on national and state financing options that will inform the design and functionality of products and services.
  • Build subject matter expertise in the areas of quality measurement and develop close relationships with Sellers Dorsey consultant team supporting quality management. Participate in Quality Knowledge Share group to lead, engage, and teach others in the firm about quality measurement.
  • Identify relationships between metrics and other content for teaching and training, such as Kaleido, our learning management system. Lead effort to document these relationships, with the support of the Content Management Specialist.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Economics, Healthcare Administration or a related field required. Ph.D. preferred.
  • 10+ years in healthcare evaluation, public health research, quality or healthcare administration, with progressive expansion of scope and responsibility.
  • Fluent in science of healthcare quality measurement and value-based care models, their associated metrics and financing models.
  • Strong research skills with understanding of research design, statistical methods, risk adjustment and measure calculations (e.g. per member per month, mortality O/E ratio, etc.). Experience assessing the validity of data models and published research.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to effectively communicate and influence key stakeholders to support proposed strategies, process improvements and operations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams, including leadership team, content managers, consultants, and technical teams. Ability and willingness to share expertise and teach others complex ideas.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to handle multiple content projects simultaneously and demonstrated ability to lead projects from initial concept to final deliverable.
  • A fundamental understanding of the capabilities of statistical software used in healthcare research, such as SAS or R, machine learning, natural language processing, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
  • Experience with content management systems.

Compensation & Benefits

 

The anticipated salary range for candidates is $127,600/year in our lowest geographic market range to up to $159,500/year in our highest geographic market range. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, the candidate’s education, and the candidate’s market location. Typically, candidates are not hired near the top of the range and compensation decisions are made based upon Sellers Dorsey’s Total Compensation Policies & Guidelines. The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in our annual Corporate Incentive Plan (CIP) that can range to up to 15% of annual salary. 


Provided they meet all eligibility requirements under the applicable plan documents, the successful candidate (and their eligible dependents) will be eligible to enroll in group healthcare plans that offer medical, dental, and vision and for insurance plans offering short term disability, long term disability, and basic life. Employees are also able to enroll in Sellers Dorsey’s 401k plan provided they meet plan requirements.  Sellers Dorsey offers a Flexible Time Off that allows employees to use what they need. Additionally, we offer 10 paid holidays throughout the calendar year, paid time off for qualifying medical leave, and up to 12 weeks of combined paid parental and bonding leave. The foregoing benefits and paid time off, including an employee’s eligibility therefore, will be controlled by applicable plan documents and Sellers Dorsey policy.
