The Perfusion Assistant plays a vital support role within the Integration Health perfusion team, working under the direct supervision of a Clinical Perfusionist. This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of extracorporeal circulation and blood management systems, contributing to patient safety through the preparation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of perfusion equipment and related supplies.
· Assist in the setup of heart-lung machines and extracorporeal equipment.
· Prepare and manage disposable supplies, including oxygenators, reservoirs, filters, and tubing sets.
· Collect, label, and transport blood and fluid samples as directed.
· Monitor equipment performance and promptly report abnormalities.
· Clean and maintain perfusion-related devices (heart-lung machines, heater-coolers, autotransfusion units).
· maintain and track supply inventory to ensure readiness for scheduled and emergent cases.
· Document setup, activities, and supply usage per hospital and company policy.
· Participate in training, continuing education, and POCT quality control activities.
· Assist with the orientation of new perfusion assistants or rotating staff.
· Available to support perfusion services during scheduled and emergency procedures.
· On-call coverage may be required depending on hospital needs.
· Provide direct perfusionist support and backup as assisgned.
Qualifications
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences or related field preferred.
· Prior experience in hospital, surgical, or operating room settings is desirable.
· Certified Autotransfusionist (PBMT or equivalent) preferred but not required.
· Training provided with defined pathways toward advanced perfusion roles.
