Data Scientist — Data Integration & Analytics
About the role
Insight Xcite is recruiting Data Scientists for current and upcoming mission-focused opportunities. Turn complex data into useful analysis and clear answers for decision makers. Assignments may emphasize exploratory analysis, business and mission analytics, or the visual products that help customers understand their data.
Specific tools, seniority, education, certifications, and experience requirements depend on the assignment. We will review those requirements, the work location, and the schedule with candidates during the matching process. The examples below describe different types of work; applicants are not expected to have every skill or technology listed.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders to define analytical questions, useful measures, and the decisions the analysis needs to support.
- Gather, prepare, and contextualize structured and unstructured data from relevant sources into enriched, query-ready datasets; investigate gaps, inconsistencies, and limitations.
- Analyze patterns, trends, and relationships using methods appropriate to the question and the available data.
- Develop visualizations, dashboards, prototypes, or other analytical products and refine them with user feedback.
- Explain findings, assumptions, and limitations to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Review data quality, investigate discrepancies, and document source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, analytical methods, and product workflows so others can understand and maintain the work.
- Develop and maintain Python-based data workflows and ETL processes.
- Use SQL to explore, transform and validate data, and develop analytical or operational reports.
Required Qualifications
- At least 6 years of relevant professional experience.
- Practical experience using data to answer analytical or business questions.
- Ability to prepare and assess data, select appropriate analytical methods, and interpret results carefully.
- Experience with analytical, querying, programming, or visualization tools relevant to your work.
- Ability to communicate findings clearly and work with stakeholders to develop useful analytical products.
Examples of work
- Business and mission analytics: resource analysis, operational measures, organizational performance, or workforce effectiveness.
- Data visualization: dashboards, mockups, prototypes, and reporting products using tools such as Power BI or comparable platforms.
- Programmatic analysis and data preparation: querying, cleaning, transformation, and repeatable analysis using tools such as SQL, Python, or Power Query.
A particular assignment may require a specific platform, including Power BI. That requirement will be evaluated for the assignment rather than treated as a requirement for every opportunity in this requisition.
Assignment-specific technical focus
Requirements vary by assignment. Current technical areas include Spark/PySpark big-data processing; MySQL and PostgreSQL; XML, JSON and regular expressions; notebooks and Visual Studio; CloudWatch and Kibana reporting; and converting disparate sources into indexed, structured datasets. Candidates considered for assignments using this stack must demonstrate the required hands-on experience. You do not need experience with every listed technology to be considered for our broader Data Scientist opportunities.
Preferred experience for some assignments may include Databricks, Amazon EMR, Spark batch/streaming and performance tuning, Pandas, AWS Lambda/SNS/SQS/EC2/DynamoDB/RDS and ELK. These are assignment-specific examples, not universal requirements.
Clearance Requirement
Due to the nature of our work, Insight Xcite does not sponsor or process security clearances at this time.
Applicants must currently possess an active TS/SCI with Full-Scope Polygraph (FSP) to be considered for employment.
Please do not apply if you do not currently hold this level of clearance.
Work Location Requirement
All Insight Xcite positions are onsite. We do not offer remote or hybrid opportunities.
Applicants must be willing and able to work in person at the designated customer location.
Compensation
Compensation within the advertised range is based on relevant experience, demonstrated technical skills, and the requirements of the specific assignment. The upper end is reserved for candidates who meet the most advanced requirements.
Benefits That Support You
- Company-paid medical, dental and vision through Blue Cross Blue Shield, with optional plan upgrades.
- 7% employer contribution to your 401(k), vested immediately, with no match required, starting with your first paycheck.
