This role requires the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to client-specific standards, and deliver consistent, high-quality engineering solutions that support system reliability, capacity growth, and infrastructure resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer overhead and underground electric distribution systems (typically 4kV–35kV), including new business, system improvements, relocations, and reliability upgrades
  • Execute high-volume design work while maintaining accuracy, quality, and schedule adherence
  • Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and equipment selection
  • Develop detailed construction packages, including staking sheets, bills of material, and design drawings
  • Apply client-specific standards, NESC requirements, and local/regulatory codes
  • Utilize design and mapping tools (e.g., GIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar platforms)
  • Conduct field visits to collect data, validate design assumptions, and resolve constructability issues
  • Coordinate with internal teams, field crews, permitting authorities, and external stakeholders
  • Support permitting, easement, and right-of-way processes as required
  • Identify design risks, conflicts, and constructability challenges early and propose solutions
  • Assist in outage coordination, switching plans, and construction sequencing
  • Provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers and designers

  • Familiarity with NESC and utility engineering standards
  • Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or GIS platforms
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Effective communication and coordination skills across cross-functional teams

Preferred:

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward PE licensure
  • Experience supporting large investor-owned utilities or similar programs
  • Familiarity with work management systems and client-driven workflows
  • Experience with system hardening, reliability programs, or grid modernization initiatives

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Combination of office and field work, including site visits in varying terrain and environmental conditions
  • Ability to support fast-paced, deadline-driven project cycles
  • Travel may be required depending on project needs
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to established standards
