Project Overview

We are seeking an experienced Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) Consultant to conduct a comprehensive, data-driven assessment of our RCM department. This consultant will analyze current workflows, identify gaps and inefficiencies, benchmark our performance against best practices, and deliver a clear, prioritized roadmap for internal improvements. Expertise in Athenahealth, RCM analytics, and industry best practices is essential.


Key Responsibilities

1. Comprehensive Assessment

  • Audit end-to-end RCM workflows: charge capture, eligibility, coding, claim submission, denial management, and patient collections.
  • Review Athenahealth configuration, reporting setup, and data integrity.

2. Data Analysis & Benchmarking

  • Extract and analyze key performance metrics (e.g., Days in AR, denial rates, collection %, clean claim rate).
  • Benchmark performance against industry standards and peer organizations.

3. Gap Identification

  • Identify process breakdowns, skill gaps, system configuration issues, and reporting limitations.
  • Quantify the financial impact of each identified gap.

4. Recommendations & Roadmap

  • Develop a prioritized action plan with short-, mid-, and long-term initiatives.
  • Provide best-practice templates: SOPs, reporting dashboards, and escalation protocols.

5. Presentation of Findings

  • Deliver an executive summary report and accompanying slide deck.
  • Facilitate a virtual workshop (1–2 hours) with leadership to present findings and discuss next steps.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on RCM leadership or consulting experience in primary care or multi-specialty practices.
  • Deep expertise in Athenahealth, including platform configuration, reporting, and API integrations.
  • Strong analytical skills: proficiency in SQL, Excel (pivot tables, Power Query), and BI tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Proven track record in reducing AR days and improving collections.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with a talent for turning data into actionable business insights.
