Backend Engineer (Typescript)

Location: Remote

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to join the Audio Backend Team. In this role, they will help build and maintain backend services that power key features in both the main our Client News App and their dedicated Audio App that is used by millions of daily users.

They’re looking for a self-motivated engineer who can independently drive work from start to finish. They will be given clear goals and expected to take ownership of breaking them down into deliverable tasks, navigating systems and collaborating across teams to get the work done effectively.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services supporting audio content delivery and features, publishing, and creation.
• Own projects end-to-end, from planning through deployment and support.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering teams.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in production as part of a low-frequency on-call rotation.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and GraphQL.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote and distributed team environment.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure platforms is a plus.
• DevOps, Terraform, or systems reliability experience is a bonus.

On-Call Expectations:
This role includes light participation in an on-call rotation. However, production issues are rare (only one incident so far this year).
