General Description:
The Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Our designated purpose is religious, and we are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We consider every position to be essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and statement of purpose. As such, each employee must have a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
Essential Functions:
- Submit to the COO their direct supervisor and fulfill requests as needed.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries and ensure that all direct reports adhere to the policies and procedures of the Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries.
- Brief shelter staff about all policy and procedural changes affecting the department and entire mission.
- Incorporate Biblical principles into interactions with guests and other staff that build positive and productive relationships.
- Maintain a loving and peaceful environment by exercising spiritual care over the staff.
- Acknowledge growth, discipline, and use positive reinforcement with guests and staff.
- Hold guests and staff accountable for inappropriate behavior and enforce discipline procedures according to the Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries policies.
- Meet regularly and communicate important information and decisions to the COO.
- Attend all required team meetings. Ensure all shelter staff attends all required meetings.
- Evaluate the Women’s Shelter programming regularly to find the most effective ways to minister and to find new ways to best serve the guests and encourage them to productivity.
- Develop and maintain evening programs and activities for families with children.
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the Women’s Shelter, including daily logs, reports, and files.
- Guide and develop staff that will model and instill spiritual principles of community living and growth.
- Communicate activity and changes within the Women’s Shelter to other departments of Kalamazoo Gospel Mission as applicable to promote a cooperative team spirit.
- Encourage eligible emergency shelter guests to move into the dorm and participate in the “Next Step Programming”.
- Encourage the Next Step Programming guests to consider the Long-Term Program.
- Schedule employees, Christian service hour personnel, and volunteers on all shifts.
- Attend Redemptive Counsel meetings concerning shelter guests.
Essential Functions: (Cont.)
- Complete monthly shelter stats and board report and forward to COO.
- Conduct the first interview for new job applicants and make a recommendation for the next step in the hiring process.
- Oversee Next Step Program Case Manager to ensure job expectations are being met, collaborate to suggest improvements to the program, and ensure guests involved and successful in the program.

- Ability to handle difficult guests with firm grace and love. Representing Christ and the Ministry in all interactions
- Excellent organizational skills.

Education/Experience and/or Certification:
- Prefer a bachelor’s degree in a human services field however 1-3 years of experience in the social services community would be welcomed. Requires a high school diploma.
- Minimum 1-3 years responsibility in a leadership role with growing responsibilities.
