Kapor Capital is an early-stage venture capital firm based in Oakland, CA, investing primarily in pre-seed and seed-stage technology companies. We focus on addressing the lack of access and opportunity for underserved communities, particularly low-income communities and communities of color. We are currently investing out of our third fund, totaling $126M and is one of the largest Black-led funds ever raised. About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Summer Associate to work alongside our investment team. You'll gain exposure to the full venture capital process, from evaluating pitch decks and conducting market research to supporting due diligence and helping our portfolio companies grow. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in venture capital and contribute meaningfully to our firm's work.


What you'll do


You'll be involved in the full investment lifecycle, including:


Deal Sourcing & Diligence 

  • Research emerging technology trends, markets, and competitive landscapes to identify promising investment opportunities
  • Source potential investments through founder outreach, event attendance, and network development
  • Conduct initial screening calls with founders and prepare investment memos
  • Build financial models and perform valuation analyses
  • Prepare investment presentations and supporting materials

Portfolio Support

  • Assist portfolio companies with strategic projects, fundraising, and operational challenges
  • Conduct research to support portfolio company initiatives

Team Collaboration

  • Participate in investment committee meetings and team discussions
  • Contribute to firm initiatives, thought leadership, and content creation
  • Support general operations and special projects as needed

The Summer Associate will also complete a Summer Capstone project related to the firm's needs.


About You


Required Qualifications: 

  • At least 2 years of full-time, post-undergraduate work experience. 
  • Strong belief in Kapor Capital’s mission to use technology to close gaps of access and opportunity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to closing gaps of access, opportunity, or outcomes for low-income communities of underrepresented ethnic and racial minorities. 
  • Desire to pursue a career in venture capital. 
  • Must be able to analyze data effectively, interpret results, and extract insights.
  • Currently enrolled or recently completed an MBA or MS graduate program.
  • Must be able to work onsite at Oakland, CA office at least two days per week.

Strongly Preferred: 

  • Domain experience or interest in the Digital Health, Education Technology, Financial Technology, or Climate Technology sectors
