Staff Accountant  

Department: Finance and Internal Operations 

Reports to Senior Accountant 

Seasonal (3 months subject to 30 day extension)

Location: Hybrid Office Environment in Alpharetta, Georgia (Tuesdays through Thursdays in-office) 

 

Position Summary: 

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day financial record-keeping and reporting activities for the company. Responsibilities include preparing financial statements, posting journal entry transactions, reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining the general ledger, performing month-end close procedures in accordance with US-GAAP, and analyzing financial reports and forecasts.  

 

This role is subject to a hybrid office environment in Alpharetta, Georgia. This role is required to be in-office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and may work from an approved alternate work location on Mondays and Fridays. 

 

Essential Duties: 

  • Prepare Bank and Balance Sheet reconciliations for Senior Accountant’s approval. 
  • Draft General Ledger journal entries 
  • Update file storage and archives 
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and carry them through to completion by established deadlines. 
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic financial statements in accordance with US-GAAP. 
  • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, including opening and closing periods in ERP system (Blackbaud Financial Edge), generating Closing Reports, and creating, entering and/or posting applicable journal entries into the ERP system. 
  • Coordinate with Payroll and Benefits Coordinator to assist in payroll review and posting. 
  • Properly account for TDA and ROTH remittances. 
  • Manage donations made in non-cash formats such as stocks. 
  • Properly account for Missionary and Intern transactions. 
  • Create and distribute annual 1099’s. 
  • Assist with the annual audit by the Company’s Independent Public Accountants. 
  • Assist with improvements to the organization’s internal control policies and procedures. 
  • Update the role’s procedures consistently with current best practices. 
  • Complete monthly journal entries as needed. 
  • Prepare refunds and negative batch reconciliation as requested by Donation Processing. 
  • Assist with properly accounting for fixed assets and prepare reconciliation.  
  • Assist as backup for Donations processing Assistant as needed.  
  • Other tasks, as requested. 

 

Education & Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance 
  • 2+ years of relevant accounting experience 
  • CPA or CMA certification is a plus 
  • Preference for experience with non-profit organizations 

 

Skills & Knowledge Required: 

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, and other business collaboration tools. 
  • Strong experience with a Financial Database solution; use of Blackbaud Financial Edge a plus. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, ASANA, or another project management system is a plus. 
  • Prior experience with a Donor Management System; use of StudioEnterprise a plus. 
  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated skills in matters related to accounting and financial policies, procedures, and reporting. 
  • Team-first, service-oriented attitude and a commitment to working collaboratively to discover, analyze, and solve problems. 
  • Self-motivation, initiative, independence, creativity, and critical thinking skills. 
  • Strong skill in cross-cultural communication, for frequent phone and written contact with coworkers in different countries and from different language and cultural backgrounds. 
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to push forward multiple projects but simultaneously with a significant attention to detail resulting in a high degree of accuracy. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally for training (up to 3 weeks in each calendar year). 
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Alignment with the driving mission/vision/values of Kids Alive International, the Bible, Christian theology, faith, and practice. 
  • Proficiency in English, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. 
  • Spanish or French language proficiency is a plus.

  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time and be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery and technology, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer and must have the ability to use hands to handle, control or feel objects or controls and reach with hands and arms.

  • Read/comprehend, communicate clearly orally and in writing, reasoning and analytical abilities, and mental flexibility. 
  • Move objects up to 30 pounds. 
  • Occasionally climb stairs, bend, squat, kneel, crouch, and reach above shoulder to access materials and/or documentation. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to compare and distinguish accounting and administrative data.   
  • Hearing ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking level with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound. 

 

Regular Work Environment:   

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly working in a typical interior/office work environment. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 
  • This role may very occasionally be required to work overtime or outside of normal working hours.
