About the role

As a Lead Data Backend Engineer at Knotch, you'll be at the forefront of our data initiatives. You'll take ownership of critical data projects, ensuring their reliability, performance, accuracy, and quality. This means not only building robust solutions but also proactively identifying and resolving data inconsistencies. Beyond technical ownership, you'll play an integral role in shaping our Engineering team by providing technical direction, conducting thorough reviews, and mentoring other engineers as part of our globally distributed team. In this role, you will also collaborate closely with our cross-functional team across the U.S., Brazil, Romania, and India, ensuring alignment and impact at scale.

How you will add value at Knotch

• Drive Project Success: Collaborate cross-functionally to define requirements, gain technical alignment, and ensure the successful delivery of complex data projects from conception to deployment.
• Optimize & Enhance: Maintain and significantly improve our existing data applications, focusing on optimal performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Strategic Partnership: Build strong relationships across various teams to deeply understand their data needs and deliver impactful, tailored solutions that drive business outcomes.
• Data Stewardship: Own the integrity and quality of critical data sets, serving as the go-to subject matter expert for your assigned business domains.
• Technical Leadership: Lead data projects from end-to-end, providing expert technical guidance, performing rigorous code and design reviews, and actively mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.

You will be successful if you bring

• 8+ years of professional experience in data engineering with exposure to backend technologies, with at least 2 years in a leadership or lead-level/manager role.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and guide a team of data/backend engineers, fostering growth and high performance.
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL and Python, demonstrating a strong understanding of data manipulation, analysis, and scripting.
• Solid knowledge and of backend engineering principles and API development (ie. REST).
• Hands-on experience with AWS services or other Cloud platforms (ie. GCP, Azure).
• Strong understanding of data warehousing using Snowflake is required for consideration.

Our Benefits and Perks

• Salary Range: $150,000-$200,000 CAD depending on experience. Applicants located in the US are welcome to apply; however, the posted salary range will remain the same regardless of location.
• Work Location: Knotch is a fully remote company. For this position, candidates may work from anywhere in Canada or the U.S..
