Intermediate Designer

Position Overview

Kolar, located in the heart of downtown Cincinnati, is an award-winning team that specializes in bridging best-in-class interiors, brand experience, and spatial design—built on measurable insights that spark positive change. 

Kolar is currently hiring for an Intermediate Environmental Graphic Designer and is open to a variety of experience levels and tiers. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about delivering thoughtful, innovative, and transformative solutions in the built environment. Our Intermediate Designers work in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary teams within a variety of Sectors (including Academic, Civic, Corporate, Healthcare, and Mixed Use) to design meaningful experiences which reflect our client’s brands.  This position requires a highly creative problem solver, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, who is collaborative and curious.

Design Development

  • Nurture and cultivate relationships with internal and external design partners, fostering collaboration and driving innovation.
  • Utilize firm knowledge of ADA Code and Zoning Code regulations to inform design solutions, ensuring compliance and accessibility.
  • Proactively source materials and fabrication techniques, staying abreast of industry trends and driving innovation in project deliverables.
  • Develop a growing understanding of materiality and fabrication techniques to enhance design capabilities and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Serve as the project captain for small-scale projects (under $30K), demonstrating leadership and ensuring project success from initiation to completion.

Implementation

  • Lead the successful execution of 10+ projects within a specific sector, overseeing all phases of delivery within Graphics and Wayfinding service lines.
  • Utilize Sign Agent Pro effectively to manage projects, streamline processes, and optimize project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate design concepts into actionable plans, ensuring alignment with project objectives and client expectations.
  • Liaise with vendors and contractors to coordinate fabrication and installation processes, ensuring timely delivery and execution of project requirements.
  • Conduct regular reviews and quality checks to maintain the highest standards of design integrity and craftsmanship throughout implementation.


Client Services

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing exceptional service and serving as a trusted advisor throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, internal teams, and external partners, ensuring clarity and alignment on project objectives and deliverables.
  • Incorporate client feedback to refine design solutions and enhance project outcomes, demonstrating responsiveness and adaptability.


Required Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Sign Agent Pro and other relevant design software.
  • Strong understanding of ADA and zoning codes, with the ability to navigate and interpret regulatory requirements effectively.
  • Proactive approach to material sourcing and fabrication techniques, continually seeking opportunities to innovate and elevate design offerings.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, environmental design, architecture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience, with a proven track record of managing projects from conception to completion within the Graphics and Wayfinding service lines.
