BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

This SkillBridge internship offers transitioning service members the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in accounting within a professional business environment. The intern will assist with recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, managing invoices and payments, and supporting month-end financial reporting. This position is ideal for those with strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and an interest in finance or accounting. Familiarity with basic financial principles is a plus. Interns will gain valuable exposure to civilian business practices while developing skills transferable to a wide range of career paths.


As an Accounting Assistant Intern, you will support the finance team in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring smooth day-to-day accounting operations. You will gain hands-on experience with bookkeeping tasks including data entry, account reconciliation, invoicing, payroll assistance, and financial reporting. This internship is designed to help transitioning service members develop essential accounting skills and prepare for a successful civilian career in finance or business administration.


WORK PERFORMED

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Assist with daily financial transaction entry and maintenance of general ledger records
  • Reconcile bank statements and assist with monthly account closing processes
  • Support accounts payable and receivable functions, including invoice processing and payment tracking
  • Help prepare basic financial reports (e.g., balance sheets, income statements)
  • Maintain accurate and organized records in accounting software (QuickBooks)
  • Assist with payroll tasks, including tracking hours and reviewing tax withholdings
  • Learn and apply accounting principles under the guidance of experienced professionals
  • Perform other bookkeeping or administrative duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated proficiency in accounting software tools and data entry accuracy
  • Increased understanding and application of bookkeeping principles week-over-week
  • Positive feedback from supervisors and mentors on initiative, professionalism, and growth

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, Administration, Business, or related field preferred (not required)
  • 1+ year(s) of administrative, clerical, financial, or closely related experience required
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping or accounting principles is a plus (not required)
