OVERVIEW:

The DevOPS Engineer is primarily responsible for maintaining, deploying, and supporting critical infrastructure within federal systems. The critical position involves working closely with the engineering team to design, build, and maintain our systems.


LOCATION: SAN MATEO, CA (Onsite, inperson position)


RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for federal application deployments.

      Manage and monitor infrastructure across federal cloud environments, including AWS GovCloud and Azure Government.

      Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.

      Apply and enforce FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and FISMA security controls across all systems.

      Monitor system health, set up alerting, and respond to incidents in production federal environments.

      Collaborate with security teams to conduct vulnerability assessments and remediation.

      Automate configuration management and environment provisioning.

      Manage containerized workloads using Kubernetes and Docker in secure, air-gapped, or limited-connectivity environments.

      Maintain detailed documentation for architecture, runbooks, and compliance artifacts.

      Support Authority to Operate (ATO) processes and provide technical evidence for audits.

      Work with cross-functional teams including developers, security officers, and program managers.

      Conduct code reviews and maintain coding standards for infrastructure scripts and pipelines.


REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS


MUST HAVE:

      Minimum 10 years of experience in a DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or infrastructure engineering role required.

      At least 3 years of hands-on experience working within federal government or DoD environments required.

      Proven track record of managing production systems with high availability and strict compliance requirements required.

      Citizenship Requirement: Applicants must be US citizens. This position requires access to federal systems subject to federal compliance regulations. Non-citizens are not eligible to be considered for this role, no exceptions.

      Compliance and Clearance Requirements: Must pass a background investigation and federal suitability determination prior to starting. Must comply with all federal information security and privacy policies.

 

TECHNICAL MUST HAVE:

Cloud Platforms

      AWS GovCloud Required: EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, and Security Hub.

      Azure Government Required: Virtual Machines, Azure DevOps, Azure Monitor, Key Vault, and Policy.

      Experience with FedRAMP Required: authorized cloud services and their compliance boundaries.


CI/CD and Automation

      Proficiency with Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps Pipelines required.

      Strong experience writing and maintaining pipelines for build, test, and deployment automation required.

      Familiarity with artifact management tools such as Nexus or JFrog Artifactory required.

      Scripting experience in Bash, Python, or PowerShell for task automation required.


Infrastructure as Code

      Hands-on experience with Terraform for provisioning and managing cloud resources required.

      Working knowledge of Ansible for configuration management and server provisioning required.

      Experience with AWS CloudFormation or Azure ARM/Bicep templates required.


Containers and Orchestration

      Strong knowledge of Docker: image creation, optimization, and multi-stage builds required.

      Experience managing Kubernetes clusters, including deployment, scaling, networking, and RBAC required.

      Familiarity with Helm charts for application deployment management preferred.

      Experience with OpenShift or EKS/AKS in government or regulated environments is a plus.


Networking and Security

      Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, VPNs, and firewalls required.

      Experience configuring and managing Zero Trust network architectures required.

      Knowledge of TLS/SSL certificates, PKI, and secrets management using Vault or AWS Secrets Manager required.

      Ability to implement and document security controls in line with NIST 800-53 and DISA STIGs required.


Monitoring and Observability

      Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog for metrics collection and dashboards required.

      Proficiency with ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) or Splunk for log management required.

      Ability to set up alerting, on-call runbooks, and incident response workflows required.


Version Control and Collaboration

      Strong proficiency with Git: branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews required.

      Experience with GitOps methodologies using tools like ArgoCD or Flux required.

      Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools such as Jira or Azure Boards required.

Operating Systems

      Deep knowledge of Linux administration: RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or Amazon Linux 2 required.

      Experience hardening Linux systems per CIS benchmarks and DISA STIGs required.

      Working knowledge of Windows Server administration where required by project needs required.


Database and Storage

      Experience managing MySQL databases in cloud environments required.

      Knowledge of backup strategies, replication, and disaster recovery for databases required.

      Familiarity with object storage, EBS volumes, and EFS in federal cloud contexts required.

      Experience with MongoDB for managing NoSQL document databases in scalable, distributed environments required.

      Hands-on experience with RabbitMQ for message brokering, queue management, and event-driven architecture required.

      Proficiency with Node.js for building and deploying server-side applications as part of the Kore stack required.

      Experience with Redis for in-memory caching, session management, and pub/sub messaging patterns required.


PREFERRED:

      Active security clearance (Secret or higher) is a strong plus.

      AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent certification.

      Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS).

      CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 baseline certification.

      Experience with DevSecOps practices and integrating security scanning into pipelines (SAST, DAST, SCA).

      Familiarity with OSCAL and automated compliance tooling for continuous ATO processes.

      Experience with Packer for building hardened machine images.

      Experience with Voice systems (e.g., IVR platforms, VoIP, speech recognition, or voice-enabled federal applications) is an additional plus.


EDUCATION:

      Graduate in Engineering OR Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) required.


Depending on specific professional experience and geographical location of individuals, the salary for this position ranges from $150,000 - $160,000.  Additional wage/bonus/commission and benefit details will be shared during the formal interview process for this full-time employment opportunity.
