Kraken Robotics is currently seeking a Junior Mechanical Technician to join our team in Dartmouth, NS.


As a Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) Technician with Kraken Robotics, you will play a key role in the support, definition, and maintenance of Kraken's product portfolios. You will primarily be responsible to produce error-free technical drawings, 3D models, and design verification documentation. You will work within the established workflows of the drawing office, ensuring that all deliverables meet company and industry standards in a timely manner. As a Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) Technician, you will also play a key role in our Engineering Change Process by executing changes based on approved scopes and that the metadata of inputs and drawings are properly maintained. Key roles and responsibilities include working directly with members of the Drawing Office Team to:


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that drawings are produced to company-wide standards, industry-wide regulations, and applicable safety codes.
  • Ensure that assigned scopes are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Perform self driven quality checks on all completed drawings to ensure accuracy with provided technical specifications.
  • Participate in the review and approval process of all documents generated.
  • Work within established departmental procedures and frameworks to ensure that no detail is missed during the drawing release pipeline.
  • Assist in the modification of mechanical components using 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Assist with the execution of engineering change requests and orders in accordance with Kraken’s engineering change procedures.
  • Development and maintenance of 3D models and 2D drawings with consideration toward fabrication processes, inspection processes, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Upload outputs to ERP systems for approval and release to production.
  • Manage product data and documentation using Product Data Management software ensuring accurate version control and revision history.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, ILS, Production, Supply Chain Management, Configuration Management, Documentation Management, Project Management and Business Development Support to advise them in the applicable use of drawing standards and documentation control procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Technical Diploma in Computer-Aided Drafting or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Naval Architecture, or equivalent.
  • Experience using SolidWorks (or equivalent) for the creation of mechanical manufacturing and production drawings would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM (or equivalent) for document approval, versioning, and file structure organization would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in the use of GD&T would be considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Great communication skills with the ability to collaborate with other team members.
  • A keen eye for detail to catch technical errors.
  • The ability to work in a process driven environment and a personal commitment to do the little things the right way to maximize deliverable quality.
  • Prior experience in Marine, Robotics, or Microelectronics industries considered an asset but not required.
