Kraken Robotics is currently seeking a Senior System & Network Administrator to support the daily operations, maintenance, and optimization of our IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing servers, networks, and systems in both on-premises and hybrid cloud environments. This role will involve executing routine system administration tasks, system implementation, troubleshooting technical issues, and collaborating with IT and cross-functional teams to ensure stability, security, and efficiency across our technology landscape.


This position will be based out of our Mount Pearl, Newfoundland or Dartmouth, Nova Scotia offices with the option of working hybrid or remote.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine system administration tasks, including server and system upgrades, patching, and user account maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve common hardware, software, and system connectivity issues.
  • Administer, monitor, and maintain IT infrastructure - including servers, storage, network equipment, and backups - across on-premises and hybrid cloud systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, storage, and network connectivity issues, leveraging management tools for provisioning, monitoring, automation, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with IT and IS team members and other departments to resolve incidents, implement solutions, and address business IT needs.
  • Participate in IT projects, rollouts, and cross-functional initiatives that support business objectives and technology improvements.
  • Create, update, and maintain technical documentation, including knowledge base articles, troubleshooting guides, system configuration records, and incident/change logs.
  • Document recurring issues and solutions to promote continuous improvement in IT operations.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience as a System Administrator, IT Systems Engineer, or equivalent role.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows/Linux server environments, networking concepts, and systems administration best practices.
  • Proven experience with hybrid cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure monitoring tools, automation platforms, and patch management tools.
  • Working knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and storage management practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and departments.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on documentation and repeatable processes.


PREFERRED SKILLS (NICE TO HAVE)

  • Certifications such as MCSA/MCSE, CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Network+, VMware VCP, or equivalent.
  • Experience with scripting or automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.) for system and infrastructure management.
  • Background supporting IT environments in mid-size to enterprise organizations.
