About the role


The Operations Associate in the Strategic Investments Department supports the operational and administrative functions related to the company’s investment portfolio, with a focus on alternative assets, private placements, structured products, and other complex investment vehicles. This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of investment data and transactions, working closely with portfolio managers, custodians, accounting, compliance, and external partners. In a life insurance context, this position plays a key role in supporting the management of long-term investment strategies that align with the company’s liability profile and regulatory requirements. The Operations Associate helps maintain robust investment operations infrastructure, supports reporting and reconciliation processes, and contributes to the continuous improvement of investment workflows and systems.


What you'll do

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Ability to self-manage in a high volume, fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
  • Actively monitor trading system to ensure trades are promptly and accurately sent through downstream post-trade functions such as broker allocations, trade affirmations and posting trades to the portfolio accounting system.
  • Proactively analyze trade allocation and affirmation discrepancies as needed and resolve accordingly
  • Liaise with internal “clients” (portfolio managers, traders, and portfolio administrators) to provide trading support for all, including trade corrections and new account post-trade setup.
  • Liaise with external “clients” (brokers and custodians) to ensure accuracy of their records for on-time trade settlement, including providing manual allocations to brokers as needed to keep failed trades to a minimum. Any delivery rejections (DKs) and/or fails must be resolved immediately.
  • Construct custom trade reporting packages and review for accuracy prior to dissemination
  • Tackle ad-hoc projects assigned from the CIO, Head of Investment Operations, and/or Portfolio Manager

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or related fields
  • 5-10 years industry experience preferred
  • Competent in Microsoft Office programs, strong Excel skills necessary
  • Previous supervisory experience a plus
  • Bloomberg experience required
  • Working knowledge of financial markets and investment vehicles including short term money markets
  • Working knowledge of the settlements process and the lifecycle of a trade is a plus
