About the role


Pay - $14.00 per hour


The Deckhand provides our guests with the highest level of customer service. The Deckhand sells tickets, refreshments, and merchandise; handles mooring lines for docking and undocking; performs custodial and maintenance tasks; and monitors the river, vessel, and passengers to ensure safety.

·      Provide a professional level of customer service.

Safety and Security

·      Monitor river, vessel, and passengers to ensure safety during vessel operations.

·      Participate in onboard training and routine drills.

·      Demonstrate practical knowledge of all phases of shipboard safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e. fire extinguishers, life preservers, work vest).

·      Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

·      Handle and dispose of all chemicals and other types of hazardous or caustic materials in compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (as required).

·      Report safety related concerns.

 Operations

·      Handle mooring lines to dock or undock the vessel and transit locks.

·      Sell tickets, beverages, food, and merchandise.

·      Responsible for ticketing equipment, inventory, and cash.

·      Provide refreshments, including alcoholic beverages at times, to guests.

·      Perform lookout duties while underway, including watching for other vessels and monitoring the river for potential unsafe conditions.

·      Assist in boarding and disembarking of passengers.

·      Assist with filling water, bunkering fuel, connecting and disconnecting shore power as directed.

·      Perform cleaning and custodial tasks of the vessels and property.

·      Perform maintenance tasks as assigned and minor engineering repairs and rounds as directed.

·      Seek the highest levels of quality and professionalism.

·      Work to achieve the highest levels of performance and productivity.

·      Communicate cruise information and promotions to guests.

·      Seek continuous improvement.

The majority of work is performed in a marine environment in outdoor conditions with exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions, along with a moderate to loud noise level. Marine operations are subject to varied wake and motion. 

 Human Resources (HR)

·      Understand the Employee Handbook and adhere to policies.

 Management Systems

·      Understand and comply with the Safety Management System (SMS).

·      Understand and comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

·      Maintain Crew Qualification binder.

 Regulatory Compliance

·      Collaborate with other Company personnel to remain attentive to regulatory requirements and alert to regulatory changes. 

·      Assist Captain in ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.

·      Assist Captain in ensuring vessel is in an inspection-ready condition at all times.

 Client Relations 

·      Present professional level of customer service and appearance to all clients, both internal and external.

  Administration / Financial  

·      Responsible for handling money and balancing money bags.

 Reporting

·      Generate settlement and recap reports.

·      Generate reports on incidents, near-misses, hazardous conditions, and non-conformities as necessary.

 Other Duties  

·      Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Cash handling experience preferred
  • Proven track record of working successfully in a team environment
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification, and/or ability to obtain and maintain
  • Obtain and maintain certification for alcohol service after training completion
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with the public
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, quickly changing environment
  • Ability to process calculations frequently and continuously
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing.
  •  Previous customer service experience preferred
