The Opportunity
Lavender is currently seeking a Data Analyst. The Data Analyst has a passion for health and data analysis and plays a key part in supporting data-driven decision-making at Lavender. The analyst is responsible for providing our team the ability to quickly understand data, glean insights to help inform decision-making, while providing a suite of reporting and self-serve tools to answer any business questions. They are a champion of automation by building processes that ensure accurate, timely information and data accessibility. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in all aspects of data analytics, including data mining, transformation, and visualization, to help drive growth and innovation.
Must have your own computer that can be used for work, high-speed internet and a quiet, professional space to work from home.
What You’ll Be Doing
Looker Development & Engineering
- Build & Deploy: Own the end-to-end development of Looker dashboards, from initial LookML modeling (Views, Models, and Explores) to the final visual layer.
- Architecture Maintenance: Manage and optimize the LookML codebase to ensure the reporting environment is scalable, organized, and free of "technical debt."
- Feature Deployment: Implement advanced Looker functionality (e.g., liquid parameters, custom visualizations) to increase adoption and usage.
Data Quality and Integrity
- Data Transformation: Partner with the data team to clean and model disparate data sources into unified, analysis-ready datasets within the warehouse (BigQuery/Snowflake).
- Quality Assurance: Act as the "first responder" for reporting bugs—if a number looks off, you dive into the logic to find and fix the root cause.
- Documentation: Maintain "code as documentation" within LookML and build out the Data Dictionary so that metrics are transparent and clearly defined for all users.
Dashboarding and Execution
- Automated Reporting: Design and maintain a suite of "Single Source of Truth" dashboards that provide a real-time view of Lavender’s KPIs.
- Operational Discovery: Analyze disparate data sources to highlight trends and identify operational opportunities for growth.
- System Hygiene: Proactively monitor and "prune" unused or broken dashboards to keep the Looker environment clean and efficient.
What You Bring
- The Looker Expert: Advanced experience with LookML (Views, Models, and Dashboards). You are comfortable managing explores, joins, and derived tables.
- SQL Mastery: Expert-level SQL skills. You can write complex queries, optimize for performance, and transform messy data into structured tables.
- Data Modeling: Experience with data warehouse structures and building the "Single Source of Truth" layer.
- UI/UX for Data: A keen eye for dashboard design—knowing how to use whitespace, color, and chart types to make data instantly readable.
- Healthcare Experience (Preferred): 2+ years in a US healthcare environment (HIPAA/Insurance data).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Finance, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
