Overview
The Financial Analyst has a unique view into the operational and corporate delivery by understanding the entire business life cycle and is responsible for a full range of financial and strategic analyst support which ensure the operational effectiveness and excellence of the business unit. The Financial Analyst will track and analyze business unit trends and make appropriate recommendations that will positively impact the unit including any cross‐divisional analysis, or any necessary strategic analysis. Serve as a key technical expert on financial issues and interface with senior and executive management responding to their requests for financial information and resolving reporting and compliance issues.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the key financial expert for project issues & concerns. The Financial Analyst will be responsible for tracking budget spends in accordance with the contracts (customers and vendors), forecasting revenue, managing cash flow, and ensuring appropriate margin profitability for their projects while maintaining audit compliance and adhering to financial controls.
- Responsible for reviewing reimbursement guidelines for study related procedures.
- Keeps up to date on payer coverage for services provided.
- Works with and ancillary departments to identify research procedures needed, budget estimates and cost details.
- Provides financial oversight, budgeting, reporting, and analysis of assessments related to sponsored compensation.
- Assist manager with monthly management discussion and analysis of reports.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for capturing non-standard of care revenue related to clinical research.
- Has oversight of the Research Billing Guides and works with the Clinical Trial Manager regarding all study matters specific to billing.
- Assists with the identification and implementation of policies and procedures related to Research finance process improvement.
- Monitors study accounts to evaluate the cost expenses/details are appropriate and within expected limits, reconciles accounts receivable and payments.
- May conduct review and/or audits of clinical trial budgets. Serves as a resource for fiscal related questions and engages management as appropriate.
- Responsible for reviewing budget & working with team to capture invoiceable items & non-standard expenses.
- Extracts and defines relevant information, analyzes and interprets data to determine financial performance.
- Prepares and delivers data, reports and/or presentations to investigators, management and/or leadership.
- Enters financial information from finalized clinical trials budgets and clinical trial agreements into the Clinical Trial Management System.
- Possesses a level of knowledge needed to understand and solve moderate to difficult problems by proactively engaging the operational team to recognize and bring prompt resolution or further escalation as needed.
- Evaluates & analyzes project trends to determine risk assessments and make appropriate recommendations to drive resolution and positively impact the projects, including any cross‐divisional analysis, or any necessary strategic analysis.
- Support internal, and external, customers on scope changes, invoicing, and other financial issues related to project budgets and contracts.
- Responsible for a full range of financial & strategic support which ensure the operational effectiveness and excellence of the business through modeling and developing recommendations for senior management team.

Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration required.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 yrs experience with CRO financial process, clinical trial budgeting or project accounting.
Skills:
- A commitment to accuracy and quality while working under set deadlines
- Experience using information systems and MS Office (MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint) preferred
- Strong quantitative and analytical competency
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks

Physical Requirements
Position requires: ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about conference or meeting locations as required; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.

The pay range for this role is:
70,000 - 85,000 USD per year (Durham)
