GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
The College and Career Program Specialist will oversee a comprehensive college and career readiness program, working with students from 8th grade through college. This role will support students' journey to post-secondary education and career success by managing various activities, including workshops, career exploration, mentorship, and scholarship management. The specialist will also work closely with students' families and the broader community to foster engagement and create long-term pathways to success.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Career Preparation and Guidance:
  • Collaborate with middle and high schools to facilitate career exploration opportunities such as career fairs, job shadowing, internships, and workshops.
  • Provide resources and tools to support students in selecting and preparing for career paths and the education or training required for those careers.
  • Coordinate college or technical school visits and facilitate related events.
  • Assist students with college applications, ensuring they understand the requirements and deadlines.
  • Stay updated on higher education and career development trends and share professional development opportunities with students and their families.
Family and Community Engagement:
  • Actively engage parents and families through meetings, newsletters, and workshops to ensure they are involved and informed about their children’s career and college readiness.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reach and involve students and families in career exploration and educational opportunities.
  • Establish a supportive community network by collaborating with local businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations to provide students with resources and opportunities. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with alumni to create a lasting support system that enhances community involvement and provides real-world insights to students navigating their educational and career paths.

Scholarship Program Management:
  • Oversee the scholarship selection process, ensuring all criteria are met for awards.
  • Cultivate partnerships with Florida colleges and universities to support the admissions process for scholarship recipients.
  • Manage all mentorship and academic support components of the scholarship program.
  • Use data to evaluate and enhance the scholarship program's impact on students and families.

Student Support and Success:
  • Identify and address barriers to student success, including providing access to socio-emotional support services and academic resources.
  • Ensure students are academically, emotionally, and culturally prepared to thrive in college and career settings.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, community partners, and families to meet graduation and career readiness targets.
  • Guide students and families through the financial aid process, helping them secure scholarships and other funding opportunities.
  • Monitor student progress throughout the program, tracking key milestones such as college enrollment, graduation rates, and career achievements to ensure long-term success.
 
Partnership and Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with local schools, colleges, universities, and community organizations to create seamless pathways from high school to higher education and careers.
  • Work closely with school counselors, teachers, and administrators to ensure students receive the necessary support and opportunities to succeed academically and professionally.
  • Cultivate relationships with Florida colleges and universities to assist with admissions and ensure students are well-prepared for the transition to higher education.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • A valid teaching certificate and 3-5 years of experience working with middle or high school students.
  • Proven experience in career coaching, college admissions guidance, or education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Leadership presence and the ability to work independently while inspiring confidence in internal and external audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, or similar software.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
