Hi, I'm Cato, CEO and Co-Founder of Loop and I am hiring a Chief Compliance Officer and VP Investments to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements across all of Loop’s entities and manage the capital raising efforts for all of the firm’s investment product offerings. This dual-role position will require a deep understanding of both portfolio management and compliance of regulated financial services businesses. You will be expected to work closely with both risk and operations in order to provide direction and guidance on product offerings and compliance matters. This role is an onsite position at our downtown Toronto office.

Where You Come In

We are seeking a seasoned investments and compliance professional to manage our investment products while also maintaining our company wide policies, enhance our compliance framework and ensure our organization is compliant with legislation as well as manage external partners and vendors.

You will be responsible for managing the investment products that are offered by Loop, helping to maintain and build new product offerings that align with our product roadmap. You will oversee our capital raising strategies and interface with our finance, product and operations team to build out our offerings. You will also be responsible for portfolio construction as a Portfolio Manager for the investment products offered to Loop’s customers.

In addition to owning investments, you will be responsible for implementing, and managing all aspects of the compliance program to ensure the company's operations comply with legal and regulatory requirements both within Canada and internationally. This role involves leading the compliance function, advising the executive team on compliance-related matters, and fostering a culture of ethical business practices. In addition, you will act as the Chief Privacy Officer (“CPO”) and Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer (“CAMLO”) for Loop and our regulated subsidiaries.

What You'll Be Doing

Compliance:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the firm’s compliance program.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations that are applicable to Loop’s business, which includes but is not limited to: 

    • Retail Payment Activities Act (RPAA)

    • Provincial Securities Laws

    • FINTRAC and Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) & Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA)

    • Lending Regulation

    • Privacy Law (PIPEDA)

  • Draft, review, maintain and ensure the implementation of all compliance and risk related policies and procedures, including but not limited to training programs, privacy management, complaints management and record-keeping requirements.

  • Prepare and submit regulatory filings and reports to relevant authorities as necessary.

  • Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments and analyses to identify potential risks across all business functions.

  • Investigate, maintain records of and resolve compliance issues and incidents.

  • Develop, test and maintain incident and crisis management plans to effectively respond to and manage potential risk events.

  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices.

  • Work with the product team to identify compliance requirements for new proposed offerings

  • Provide expert advice to the Leadership team and board on compliance and risk matters.

  • Serve as the liaison with regulatory bodies, external auditors, bank partners and government officials.


Investment Management:


  • Help Loop to obtain registration as a registered Portfolio Manager, acting as the registered PM and CCO

  • Develop and implement investment strategies that align with the firm's objectives and client needs.

  • Oversee the portfolio management function to ensure optimal performance and risk management.

  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews and performance analysis.

  • Stay abreast of market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory changes impacting investment strategies.

  • Work with the product team to build investment opportunities that can be offered to clients through Loop’s product.

  • Support the leadership team on capital raising initiatives for the various fundraising requirements of the company.



What We're Looking For

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in compliance and portfolio management roles, within the financial services industry.

  • Proficiency in portfolio management and financial analysis.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to influence and collaborate across functional teams.

  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements across the Canadian payments and investment landscape and compliance best practices in the financial services industry.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptionally clear and precise verbal and written communication skills.

  • High ethical standards and integrity.

  • Experience working in fast-paced, agile startup environments, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and market dynamics.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.

  • You enjoy pushing things forward under pressure and can manage a large workload effectively.

What we offer

  • Salary range CAD$140,000-180,000 annual, commensurate with experience 

  • Equity ranging 0.25%-1%

  • 4 weeks vacation 

  • Enrollment in group's health benefits after probation period 

Interview Process

  • 30 minutes video call to discuss the opportunity and the organization with Sarah, Chief of Staff

  • 60 minutes in person meeting with Anthony, Head of Finance and Compliance and one other member of the team

  • Take home assignment

  • 60 minutes in person meeting with Cato, CEO and Co-Founder
