About the Role


Hi, I'm Hillary, Risk Lead, at Loop and I am hiring an analytical, detail-oriented Risk intern who thrives in a fast-moving environment, tackling everything from credit monitoring to fraud investigation for the Fall semester.


This role is an onsite position 5 days per week at our downtown Toronto office (Adelaide and Spadina).


Where You Come In


As a Risk intern, you’ll play a key part in safeguarding our lending portfolio — monitoring credit, tackling fraud, managing borrower relationships, and driving smarter processes. 


You’ll gain hands-on experience across credit monitoring, fraud prevention, and collections — skills that are highly valued in banking, fintech, and beyond. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively monitor credit exposures to spot early signs of risk and support healthy portfolio performance
  • Keep our credit systems accurate by maintaining up to date FX rates
  • Oversee purchase order (PO) financing from end to end, including:
    • Calculating and charging interest and monthly fees
    • Ensuring borrowers remain on track with repayment schedules
    • Managing renewals seamlessly
  • Investigate and manage fraud and dispute cases by:
    • Reviewing claims and gathering evidence
    • Submitting chargebacks to the network
    • Tracking case statuses and keeping clients informed
  • Drive collections activities with urgency, professionalism, and empathy, including:
    • Contacting overdue borrowers
    • Negotiating settlements and payment plans
    • Issuing demand letters and assessing recovery potential
  • Partner with our tech team to identify and resolve process improvements in risk workflows
  • Analyze loan performance data and recommend strategies to strengthen our credit approach

Additional Exposure (as needed)

  • Conduct in credit application reviews, assessing businesses on financial health, creditworthiness, and risk factors
  • Prepare and manage loan documentation
  • Support the filing, renewal, amendment, and discharge of general security agreements for corporate borrowers

Desired Qualities, Skills, and Experience:

  • Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets; familiarity with financial systems or data analysis tools is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and assess risk factors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with clients and team members
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Comfortable investigating complex issues such as fraud claims or overdue accounts, and making clear recommendations
  • Willingness to adapt, learn quickly, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities
  • Eager to grow in the areas of credit monitoring, fraud prevention, and portfolio risk management

It’s a bonus if you have:

  • Working towards the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline
  • Experience working in financial services, fintech, or banking environments
  • Previously experience of credit risk assessment, lending practices, or collections processes

  • Salary range CAD$20-30/hour, commensurate with experience

Interview Process

  • 15 minutes phone call with Mandy, People and Business Operations Specialist
  • 15 minutes phone call with Hillary, Risk Lead
  • 60 minutes (in person or virtual) meeting Mark, Head of Capital Market and Nik, Head of Credit Product 
  • 30 minutes (in person or virtual) meeting with Cato, CEO and Co-Founder and 15 minutes with Sarah, Chief of Staff
