LOVB

Director, Social Impact and LOVB Foundation

About LOVB (League One Volleyball):
League One Volleyball (LOVB) is reimagining women's sports. Launched in 2019, our company is a mission-led sports performance, training and media enterprise that will change the game of volleyball in the USA and empower new generations of female athletes.

It is a groundbreaking time for volleyball in the US with our historic triple Olympic Gold medals in Women's Indoor, Beach and Sitting Volleyball. Volleyball is already the #1 most played girls'  youth sport. There are 38M current and former players today. Of major sports, it's the only one that is women-first (~90% of players are female). But the volleyball market has been almost entirely missed by traditional sports investors, brands, and media.

LOVB is capturing this opportunity by creating a strong club business, and from that built-in audience and fandom, is creating the best Pro League in the world and a digital ecosystem that will  connect all aspects of LOVB. This community-up approach will drive participation and fandom, while enabling greater empowerment for girls and young women living this amazing sport. In  this role, you will join a mission-driven, roll-up-your-sleeves team of innovators and builders who have come together to change the paradigm of professional volleyball and women’s sports.

Role Summary

The Director, Corporate and Social Responsibility leads LOVB’s enterprise impact agenda, defining where LOVB can make a distinctive difference and building the funding, partnerships, programs, and measurement required to deliver it.

The role has a dual mandate: approximately 50% leading the LOVB Foundation under the governance of its Board of Directors, and approximately 50% leading LOVB’s broader enterprise impact agenda in partnership with the Chief of Staff & Strategy and Senior Leadership Team.

Across both, the Director mobilizes LOVB’s connected ecosystem — Youth, Pro League, athletes, teams, partners, employees, and communities — to expand access and opportunity and create better life outcomes through volleyball.

Success will be measured by the reach and quality of programs, resources secured, evidence of impact, and engagement across the LOVB ecosystem.

Core Responsibilities

1. LOVB Impact Agenda: Develop, Measure and Communicate Impact Across Ecosystem

  • Define LOVB’s enterprise impact agenda, including focus areas, measurable goals, and a multi-year roadmap.
  • Translate the agenda into annual priorities, initiatives, budgets, owners, and milestones.
  • Establish impact measures and data collection across businesses, programs, and partners; track results and use learnings to improve.

2. LOVB Foundation: Lead Philanthropic Arm of LOVB, Inc.

  • Lead the Foundation’s strategy, governance, staff, operations, administration, programs, and fundraising in partnership with the Foundation Board.
  • Develop, fund and execute a focused portfolio across three pillars:
    • Scholarships & Financial Aid: Help athletes at LOVB and other clubs pursue volleyball at a more committed level.
    • Access for All: Provide camps, clinics, free events, and other opportunities for youth of all levels to experience and participate in volleyball (including initiatives such as “ViTP”)
    • Opportunity Through Volleyball: Create college pathways, internships, professional development, financial literacy, mentorship, and other opportunities for players of all ages.
  • Build and execute the Foundation’s fundraising strategy, cultivating donors and leveraging LOVB’s corporate partners, Pro team owners and partners, philanthropic relationships, and broader network to secure financial, in-kind, and strategic resources.
  • Partner with the Youth Club Differentiators team to strengthen LOVB clubs’ local fundraising through tools, resources, shared opportunities, and best practices.
  • Build and manage nonprofit, school, community, philanthropic, and corporate partnerships that extend reach and impact.
  • Manage Foundation administration and infrastructure, including fiscal sponsor and/or LOVB Inc. services relationships, financial processes and fund transfers with LOVB Finance, budgeting, compliance, grantmaking, and Board reporting.
  • Establish clear, equitable criteria for allocating Foundation resources and selecting participants, grantees, and partners.
  • Lead and develop Foundation staff with clear priorities, goals, and accountability.

3. Across LOVB: Mobilize Across Businesses and Functions

  • Mobilize LOVB Youth, Pro League, athletes, teams, employees, partners, and the Foundation around shared impact priorities.
  • Partner with LOVB Partnerships to develop credible impact strategies, commitments, and activations for current and prospective partners and secure resources for aligned initiatives.
  • Work with Youth and Pro League leaders to define impact commitments, integrate impact into business priorities, and activate programs nationally and locally.
  • Partner with Brand, Communications, and Media + Content to translate LOVB’s impact into credible messaging and storytelling.
  • Create practical models, tools, and resources that enable clubs, teams, athletes, and employees to participate in impact initiatives.
  • Lead cross-functional execution and represent LOVB credibly with community leaders, partners, funders, and other external stakeholders.

  • Experience translating strategy into scalable programs, partnerships, goals, and operating plans.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit governance, administration, budgeting, compliance, grantmaking/program stewardship, and partnership management.
  • Ability to measure impact, use data to improve programs, and communicate results credibly.
  • Proven ability to influence executives, Boards, donors, partners, and cross-functional teams in a complex, fast-growing organization.

Leadership Characteristics

The Director will be a highly accountable, low-ego leader who models LOVB’s Operating Principles and combines ambition for impact with the discipline to deliver it.

LOVB Leadership Team Operating Principles
LOVB is trying to build something wildly audacious and deeply necessary: a community built through volleyball that helps people, teams, and the sport itself grow stronger over time.

As leaders, we are stewards of something larger than ourselves. We are responsible for building an organization, a community, and a culture that combines ambition, humanity, trust, accountability, adaptability, and long-term stewardship.

Call the ball. We will communicate clearly, directly, and early — especially when conversations are difficult or stakes are high. We will address issues directly with the people involved rather than talking around them, avoiding tension, or allowing unresolved disagreement to linger.

We practice community. We will intentionally build belonging, trust, accountability, and connection through shared experiences, repeated practices, strong leadership, and organizational clarity. We will create environments where people feel challenged, supported, connected, and accountable to something larger than themselves.

Truth and trust can coexist. We will engage in honest debate, challenge ideas openly, and prioritize what is best for LOVB over ego, politics, or positioning. We will stay connected through disagreement and use trust to strengthen our ability to pursue truth together.

In-system and out-of-system. We will build strong systems, clear operating rhythms, and repeatable execution while adapting quickly as circumstances change. We will continue moving, learning, and adjusting even when plans break down or certainty is unavailable.

Better the ball. We will improve the conditions for the people and teams around us through strong handoffs, shared ownership, and reducing unnecessary friction.  …

Better the ball (continued). We will create clarity, momentum, responsiveness, and support for the next person and the next play.

Play to win, not just avoid errors. We will pursue ambitious goals, take thoughtful risks, and accept that meaningful progress requires learning through setbacks and misses. We will resist incrementalism, fear-driven conservatism, and optimizing only for predictability.

Athletes first. We will place athletes — youth and pro — and their safety, wellbeing, and long-term thriving at the center of our decisions. We will prioritize long-term athlete development, respect, and stewardship over short-term convenience or pressure.

We are stewards of the sport. We will honor, strengthen, and advance the sport of volleyball for future generations. We will make decisions with the long-term health of the sport, the athletes, and the broader volleyball community in mind.

Great coaches change people. We will lead the way great coaches coach: by challenging people, believing in people, and helping them grow into fuller versions of themselves. We will create ambitious shared work and strong community that help people discover strengths and capacities they did not yet know they had.
