Temporary Development Associate, Annual Giving

The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health, in partnership with Stanford Medicine and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, unlocks philanthropy to transform health for children and families in Northern California - and around the world. Through fundraising and grantmaking, the Foundation drives scientific research, innovation, and policy change that will improve care, advance cures, and reform healthcare systems for this and future generations.  



MAIN FOCUS: Support Community Fundraising and Direct Marketing team members on various programs, including the Champions program, in-kind donations, Summer Scamper, digital fundraising, and vendor-managed direct appeals.


LOCATION: Hybrid Position – the candidate will work an average of eight (8) days per month in our Palo Alto, CA office; the successful candidate will be based in the Bay Area.


WHAT YOU'LL DO... 


As the Temporary Development Associate, 80% of your time will support the Community Fundraising team. You will support community events and peer-to-peer fundraising aimed at generating philanthropic support for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and the child health programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The primary function of your role is to increase community involvement in the Champions third-party fundraiser programs, in-kind donations, and annual events like Summer Scamper.


20% of your time will be dedicated to support the Direct and Digital Marketing Program. You’ll be responsible for general administrative support for the team, as well as helping to coordinate in-house mailings and stewardship efforts. You will spend time on analytical projects learning and using Raiser’s Edge and Excel.


This position will report to the Senior Executive Development Administrator, with a dotted line to the Senior Director, Annual Giving and Direct Marketing.


This is a 4.5-month full-time temporary position.


The compensation range for this role is $29-$34 per hour.


YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR...

Champions Program

  • Support the Community Fundraising team with community outreach efforts and 3rd party fundraisers.
  • Work with the Digital Fundraising team to maintain the Champions website, online fundraising pages, and provide digital support; leverage Champions events as a tool to promote philanthropy and the hospital through blog posts, social media, and new opportunities.  
  • Edit collateral to fit the needs of Community Fundraising programs and update materials to comply with brand guidelines. 
  • Write and edit content about the Champions programs and individual campaigns/fundraisers in the form of blog posts, social media posts, and newsletter segments. 
  • Assist in gift-in-kind donation acceptances, deliveries, and data tracking. 
  • Provide general customer service support to donors and fundraisers as needed.
  • Track ongoing fundraisers and work alongside Community Fundraising team to provide appropriate stewardship.
  • Assist with monitoring Community Fundraising email inboxes and preparation for weekly Community Fundraising team meetings.
  • Assist with Monday.com project board maintenance.
  • Flexibility to support events on evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Summer Scamper

  • Assist Summer Scamper Event Director with general requests related to executing a large-scale community engagement and fundraising event. These include but are not limited to peer-to-peer fundraising, volunteer engagement, event logistics, and event and fundraising communications.
  • Provide general customer service support to donors and participants as needed.
  • Participate in recruitment and registration efforts.
  • Assist with registration and donation website technical support.
  • Help generate registration and revenue reports for internal records and updates.

 

Direct Marketing and Digital Fundraising

  • Managed shared Foundation inbox and respond or route emails for reply ASAP.
  • Support vendor-managed direct appeal program and in-house mailings.
    • Generate reports using donor database/ constituent relationship management system (Raiser’s Edge) and Excel.
    • Support Assistant Director, Annual Giving & Direct Marketing in all in-house mailings, including managing mail materials, list review, schedules, and merge/ print/ assembly.
  • Generate reports on a recurring basis to support digital fundraising and annual giving pipeline development. Circulate to colleagues for analysis and/or action.

Collaboration and Teamwork 

  • Develop knowledge of hospital programs to effectively communicate with supporters. 
  • Assist Children’s Fund team with prospecting, stakeholder event support, and stewardship events on an as needed basis. 
  • Work cooperatively and strategically with all relevant internal teams to ensure the success of events and to bolster our fundraising efforts.  
  • Function as a member of a team by accepting additional responsibilities and assisting others as necessary. 
  • Recommend new approaches, procedures, and processes to effect continual improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of department and services performed. 
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required. 


YOU MUST HAVE...

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years directly related work experience.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Effective interpersonal communications skills. 
  • Excellent relationship building skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • A genuine interest in working in a nonprofit environment, a strong desire to work in a development environment.
