PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to support Luther Seminary’s mission of “educating leaders for Christian communities” by assisting the Admissions Team by providing digital and in-person hospitality to prospective students exploring Luther Seminary through virtual and/or in-person campus visits and recruiting events. Residential and DL students are encouraged to apply. This is a weekly job (i.e.2-4 hours/week). 

KEY RESULT AREAS

  1. On-Campus Visit Support: host campus visitors via zoom or in person and accompany during campus visit (including but not limited to campus tour, chapel, lunch/coffee conversation, class attendance, etc.); introduce visitors to others and provide guidance throughout the visit; follow-up with "thank you" notes or emails.
  2. Admissions Events Support: participate in and assist with on-campus and virtual Admissions events (i.e. Discernment Weekend, Youth Night, Camp Days, Virtual Open Houses, Call Campaigns, etc.); support other events and opportunities as communicated by Senior Admissions Ambassadors and Admissions Staff. 
  3. General Recruitment Support: Opportunities to table at and participate in off-campus events; communications (email, zoom, phone, and in-person conversation) with prospective students and influencers (i.e. alumni, academic and spiritual mentors, donors, etc.)
  4. Office Support: minimum one 2-hr shift/week in the Admissions Office to include impromptu and back-up campus tours scheduled during shift, responding to assigned emails, answering front desk phone, and attending to administrative tasks (i.e. making coffee, stocking hospitality, running campus errands, clean-up, and other assignments).

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Attends all training and community building gatherings (approx. quarterly),and other relevant Team meetings (as needed). 
  • Supports a campus culture where diversity is valued and inclusion is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership 
  • Represents Luther Seminary in the most positive manner toward prospective, former, and current students, ministry partners and the communities we serve
  • Executes necessary administrative tasks including travel reports, tracking spending, data coding and other tasks as necessary
  • Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned



RELATIONSHIPS 

Reports to: 

Internal relationships with: Admissions team, Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Affairs, Academic Dean and Faculty, Seminary Relations, Contextual Learning, Library, Writing Center, Campus Pastor, Stewardship, Office of Technology.  

External relationships with: possible vendors or Seminary partners

Requirements:

  • Understanding, appreciation and commitment to Luther Seminary’s Mission, Vision and Welcome Statement

Required education and experience:

  • Current Luther Seminary student
  • Experience in admissions/student services in higher education or related experience in hospitality/ministry/nonprofit work

Communication:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Connector, relationship and community-builder
  • Ability to articulate personal faith and sense of vocation, and to engage prospective students who have a variety of theological perspectives and vocational interests
  • Committed to growing in intercultural competency in order to welcome students from a variety of backgrounds and identities - strong commitment to Luther’s Welcome Statement
  • Handles confidential information with the utmost tact and discretion

Technology

  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Google environments, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience with social media platforms, including Facebook
  • Familiarity with relationship management databases preferred (training offered) 
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (i.e. Canva) preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to accept and implement coaching and feedback; ability to show initiative and follow clear direction
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work independently with little or no supervision
  • Ability to work a varied schedule with flexible hours (average of 2-5/hours week throughout the year; on-campus front desk shift - DL student exempt)

The pay range for this role is:
