As we grow, we are looking for a Director of Frontend Development to lead our frontend engineering team in building scalable, responsive, and feature-rich frontends that enhance user engagement and satisfaction.

Role Overview

As the Director of Frontend Development, you will oversee the design, development, and optimisation of Luupli's frontend systems, with a focus on React Native. You will lead a team of talented engineers, collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and backend teams, and ensure the app meets the highest standards of performance, reliability, and aesthetics. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining technical expertise with strategic vision to shape the future of Luupli's user-facing experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy

• Define the technical roadmap for frontend development, aligning with business objectives.
• Lead and mentor a team of React Native developers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
• Drive architectural decisions and establish coding standards, best practices, and processes.

Development and Optimisation

• Oversee the design and implementation of new features and updates in React Native.
• Ensure the frontend is scalable, performant, and compatible across devices and operating systems.
• Collaborate with the backend team to integrate APIs, enhance data flow, and optimise performance.

Quality Assurance

• Implement rigorous testing strategies, including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests.
• Monitor app performance metrics and address bottlenecks proactively.

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with UI/UX designers to bring creative concepts to life.
• Partner with product managers to translate user needs into technical requirements and solutions.
• Coordinate with DevOps and QA teams to ensure smooth deployments and updates.

Team Growth and Management

• Recruit and retain top talent to expand the frontend development team.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

• 8+ years of experience in frontend development, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
• Proven expertise in React Native and its ecosystem (Redux, Context API, etc.).
• Strong understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, code versioning tools (e.g., Git), and app store deployments.
• Familiarity with performance optimisation techniques and tools for mobile applications.
• Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

• Knowledge of video streaming technologies, caching strategies, and HLS optimisation.
• Background in building and maintaining scalable architectures for high-traffic applications.
• Familiarity with analytics and telemetry tools like Mixpanel or Firebase.
• Experience working in agile development environments.
