REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS |
The Vice President, Risk Management reports to the Chief Risk Officer.
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION |
The primary responsibilities of the Vice President, Risk Management are to advise the Macquarie AirFinance Senior Management, Board of Directors, and shareholders on best course of action to ensure optimal placement on lease of company commercial aircraft assets, evaluate new aviation investment opportunities and manage problem accounts/work-out situations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS |
Advise Macquarie AirFinance senior management, board, and shareholders on best course of action to ensure optimal placement on lease of existing portfolio, and committed new order, commercial aircraft assets:
· Perform credit and business evaluations of airlines worldwide, including onsite due diligence evaluations;
· Assign airline credit ratings within the existing portfolio management framework;
· Analyse aviation markets globally and report on market trends that could affect lessees;
· Monitor and report on sovereign risk, political, economic, & currency trends in countries where Macquarie AirFinance has significant exposure;
· Coordinate with legal team on jurisdictional issues related to placement and registration of aircraft;
· Provide options for structural enhancements to transactions to mitigate risk.
· Develop relationships with key stakeholders from the accounting/finance/investor relations departments of existing and prospective airline customers
Evaluate new aviation investment opportunities:
· Perform financial, credit, and business risk analyses and coordinate with technical, legal, and marketing departments to ensure that proposed acquisitions of assets will be likely to meet investment return goals;
· Assist marketing department in targeting customers and sale-leaseback opportunities.
· Assist Chief Risk Officer and trading department in assessing creditworthiness of prospective clients in prospective portfolio acquisitions
Manage problem accounts, restructurings and work-out situations:
· Provide ongoing assessments and recommend action plans with respect to dealing with delinquent customers;
· Take appropriate action to collect payments from delinquent customers and otherwise to enforce remedies (e.g. collections under letters of credit) in liaison with Legal and Contract Administration;
· Negotiate with airlines, administrators of bankrupt estates, and other parties regarding restructuring of transactions with, and/or repossession of assets from, bankrupt or troubled carriers;
· Together with Legal and Technical staff, work to ensure assets are returned as timely as possible and are transitioned successfully to next lessee;
· Manage bankruptcy claims and efforts to monetize value of claims where appropriate
· Monitor and follow legal claims and assist Legal department in obtaining information needed in litigation.

Travel: Business travel required.
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 4-8 years related airline credit risk analysis experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA/Chartered Accountant/CFA qualification a plus.
