REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Director of Engine Management reports to the Vice President of Engine Management. 

 

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Engine Management will make recommendations and decisions based on technical and financial factors related to the purchase, maintenance, and sale of aircraft engines for the fleet of aircraft owned and managed by MAF.  The position requires the individual to negotiate effectively with customers and suppliers.  There will be substantial travel to oversee and facilitate aircraft and/or engine deliveries, redeliveries, and inspections, as well as in-shop teardown inspections.  The role requires the ability to understand the financial impact of decisions that affect technical quality, and to maintain customer relationships while balancing these factors.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Engine maintenance management:

Liaise with lessees’ representatives and engine shop representatives

·         Review and negotiate engine work scopes

·         Monitor engine shop visits and on-wing repairs

Prepare maintenance reserve reimbursement claims

·         Review shop documentation for accuracy and comprehensiveness

·         Review invoices for accuracy of charges

·         Review of lease for claim compliance and qualification for reimbursement

Negotiate flight hour agreements, general terms agreements and other ad hoc contracts with suppliers and customers

 

Cost and maintenance reserve management:

Develop engine maintenance reserve rates

·         Maintain engine shop visit cost and pricing databases

Negotiate engine reserve rates with customers and suppliers

Support maintenance reserve escalation process

·         Compile original equipment manufacturers price escalation data

Prepare maintenance reserve rate escalation tables

Aircraft delivery and redelivery support:

Assist in developing schedule of support for anticipated events

Negotiate delivery and redelivery conditions

Organize and coordinate borescope inspections

Calculate redelivery adjustment amounts

Coordinate with Contracts Management Group, Risk Management and Legal as necessary

 

Aircraft trading support

§   Assist with answering and raising due diligence queries

§   Raise concerns and quantify any findings noted during the due diligence process

§   Review leases with respect to prospective portfolio acquisitions

§   Perform technical reviews on prospective engine acquisitions

 

v  Maintenance reserve claim processing:   

§  Review of lease for claim compliance and qualification for reimbursement

§  Correspond with Tech Ops to obtain data to determine appropriate cost sharing allocations

 

v  Support ad hoc projects as may be requested by the internal Technical Operations, Technical Planning, Marketing, Risk, Contracts Management, Finance or Legal departments

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 5+ years related experience and/or training in the Air Technical field and technical cost management; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

·         Experience and ability to interpret operating lease documents

·         Conscientious decision capability applying technical, financial and risk factors

·         Advanced MS Excel skills

·         Strong negotiating skills with an ability to find solutions while working with customers in a professional and respectful manner

·         Work collaboratively with all departments within MAF

·         Although a second language is not a requirement, having the ability to communicate effectively with customers for whom English is a second language is necessary
