The Risk Manager reports to the Chief Risk Officer.   
 
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION
MAF has over 240 aircraft leased to over 90 airline customers in over 40 countries spread across the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions. Monitoring airline counterparty credit and compliance risk is an essential function in the business and is critical for good business decision-making. 
 
The primary responsibilities of the Risk Manager are to help the company manage credit, concentration and compliance risk through analysis, reporting, and project management of specific company processes.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 
Risk Management: 
  • Perform selected annual credit reviews of airlines worldwide to ensure MAF credit ratings for its airline counterparties are up to date. Such review to include evaluation of the ownership, management, business operations, and, most crucially, the financial status of the airline.
  • Manage the Annual Credit Review Process to coordinate allocation of annual reviews to Risk Team and track completion.
  • Monitor airline and country concentration risk for the MAF portfolio through the maintenance and use of MAF’s proprietary Risk Concentration Model. MAF carefully manages the levels of exposure it has to counterparties and jurisdictions. 
  • Manage the Know Your Customer (KYC) Onboarding process for new MAF clients (airlines and trading counterparties) using best in class third party screening tools, liaising with the Risk and Trading Teams to obtain data or clarifications from clients. Onboarding ensures that new counterparties are not sanctioned, in breach of any relevant laws, or otherwise subject to material adverse media that could potentially lead to reputational damage to MAF and its shareholders.
  • Manage the Flight Monitoring Process to ensure that MAF portfolio aircraft are not in breach of any sanctions through flights to comprehensively sanctioned jurisdictions. 
  • Perform ad hoc industry or country analysis in light of industry or country events (e.g. epidemic, oil price/FX shocks). 
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 3 – 5 years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Aviation industry experience is viewed favorably.
  
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Requires numeracy, analysis, and computer literacy (including Ms Excel) skill sets
  • Accountancy knowledge is required
