About the role


The Member Development Officer has a key role within the credit union branch, responsible for fostering and nurturing strong relationships with members both in-branch and through a variety of market outreach opportunities. This individual will engage with members to understand their financial needs and guide them on their financial journeys, assisting with account openings, loan applications, account maintenance, and day-to-day transactions. In addition to in-branch responsibilities, this position will actively partner with other lines of business to drive market development efforts through outreach initiatives such as attending external events, hosting financial workshops, and engaging with surrounding businesses and places of employment to increase brand awareness and membership growth.

Success in this position requires a blend of strong interpersonal skills, market development acumen, and a commitment to providing personalized financial solutions to meet the needs of every member.

 

What you'll do


·        Establish and grow the member base and market awareness of Mainstreet Credit Union around your assigned branch.


·        Conducting consultative meetings with members and prospective members to assess and address their financial goals, recommending relevant products and services, and ensuring a seamless, positive experience across all engagement channels.


·       Support local market outreach efforts, build relationships with local businesses, and participate in events that promote Mainstreet’s services and expand its member base.


·        Build and maintain strong member relationships through proactive communication methods such as outbound calls, emails, onboarding, and regular follow-ups.


·       Consult with current and prospective members to identify current and future financial service needs.

·        Provide members with personalized financial counseling and education services aimed at improving their financial health.

·        Help members identify financial goals, create actionable plans, and offer products/services to support those goals, all while fostering long-term relationships. (FICEP Certification)

·        Assess and identify current and future members’ needs to recommend relevant products and services, to include alternative recommendations and solutions when necessary.

·        Ensure proper procedural compliance, accuracy, and authenticity of information and documents.

·        Assists members with account openings to include checking, shares, certificates, money markets, IRAs, Trust accounts, etc.


·         Accurately process and decision loans according to established lending authority and credit union guidelines.


·         Meet and exceed daily, weekly, and monthly goals as established by management.


·         Support development of peers through mentoring and job-shadowing.


·        Process and audit transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, purchases, transfers and payments.  In charge of maintaining and balancing a cash drawer and adhering to established cash handling and balancing procedures.


·        Maintain an up-to-date and extensive knowledge of all Mainstreet products and services that are handled by this position.


·        Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance including bank secrecy act, anti-money laundering and elder financial abuse laws appropriate to the position.


·        Must have the flexibility to work various business hours, inclusive of evenings and weekends. This includes opening and closing the branch and assisting other staff in completion of daily activities, as needed.  May occasionally be requested to fill in at other branch locations. 


·        Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.


Qualifications


High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 


Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business Administration preferred. 

·        Three years of financial institution, Sales and/or advising, and customer service experience required. One to three years’ consumer lending (processing, underwriting or closing) experience in a financial institution required

o   Completion of Mainstreet Credit Union’s lending training program(s) and demonstrated ability in lieu of consumer lending experience will be considered for internal candidates


·         Ability to acclimate to required systems with accuracy and speed.


·         Strong attention to detail, relationship building and negotiating/problem solving skills


·         Must meet all criteria for registration in the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS).


·         Must have or be able to pass FiCEP Certification program within 12 months of hire.


·         Understanding and use of good judgment.


·         Thrive in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks daily.

Relevant computer skills, solid math, and written communication skills.


Must have reliable transportation and ability to work all hours required

 

Physical Requirements

·        Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  Frequently required to walk and stand.  Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.


·        Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Does require occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
