The Reinsurance Operations Manager – International Markets & Retrocession Agreements will play a central role developing and automating global operational infrastructure across non‑U.S. treaties, retrocessions and strategic collateral solutions. This new position will be responsible for developing scalable processes, reporting, KPIs and controls that support reinsurance transactions and retrocession arrangements across multiple jurisdictions, including Bermuda, the U.K., Europe, and Asia‑Pacific.
This role requires a strong understanding of international life & annuity reinsurance requirements, account structures, regulatory regimes outside the U.S., and retrocession reporting management. The ideal candidate brings a balance of strategic thinking and hands‑on execution, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across borders, cultures, and time zones.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
International Treaty Operations
- Oversee operational execution for non‑U.S. reinsurance treaties, ensuring alignment with local regulatory, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Manage treaty lifecycle requirements — cedant onboarding, account setup, transaction processing, data mapping, , and reporting timelines and settlement logistics — for international cedants per contractual requirements.
- Establish and maintain global treaty playbooks, operational documentation, and reporting templates across international product lines and collateral solutions.
Retrocession Operations Management
- Support the execution and ongoing administration of Martello Re’s retrocession arrangements, including reporting, data exchange, settlements, true‑ups, and counterparty coordination.
- Collaborate with Risk, Actuarial, Finance and Investments to ensure retrocession activities align with corporate risk appetite and capital strategy.
- Track and deliver all reporting requirements associated with retrocession agreements across multiple jurisdictions against established KPIs.
Process & Controls
- Design and implement scalable, efficient operational processes tailored to cross‑border regulatory frameworks.
- Develop and maintain controls that ensure accuracy, transparency, and audit readiness for treaty and retrocession operations.
- Identify opportunities to enhance global process standardization, automation, and integration.
Cross‑Functional and External Coordination
- Act as a key liaison with international cedants, retrocession partners, custodians, service providers, and internal teams.
- Facilitate communication of policies, procedures, and expectations related to compliance, operational risk, and regulatory matters.
- Ensure proactive coordination and timely communication regarding settlement cycles, deadlines, account changes, and transaction requirements.
Operational Reporting & Deliverables
- Co-ordinate and track reporting validations in line with treaty obligations, internal KPIs, and international filing requirements.
- Support the review, reconciliation, and settlement of international cash flows, reserves, premiums, and claims.
- Maintain robust data governance and accuracy in operational reporting across all non‑U.S. treaty activities.
Strategic Initiatives
- Contribute to process redesign, system improvements, and transformation projects as the company grows.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on international reinsurance operational nuances.
- Participate in initiatives related to expanding Martello Re’s global footprint and enhancing international operational capabilities.

Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Actuarial Science, or related field; professional designations (FLMI, ARA, CERA) preferred.
- 6+ years of experience in (re)insurance, retrocession, finance or operations within a life & annuity or asset intensive (re)insurance environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of Reinsurance Agreements, structures, operational and stakeholder requirements.
- Experience in fast‑paced, growth‑oriented or startup environments is highly valued.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across time zones and cultures.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel and PowerPoint); experience with reinsurance systems and reporting platforms is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- May oversee junior operational staff as team capacity expands.
- Contributes to the professional development of team members through coaching, guidance, and performance feedback.
Location and Travel
