Job Summary
The Clinical Dietitian provides medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling to patients within a healthcare practice. This role involves assessing patients’ nutritional needs, developing individualized nutrition care plans, and collaborating with physicians and healthcare providers to support treatment and disease management. The Clinical Dietitian helps improve patient outcomes through evidence-based nutrition interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments including medical history, diet history, lifestyle factors, and laboratory data.
- Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans aligned with patients’ medical conditions and provider recommendations.
- Provide nutrition counseling and education for conditions such as:
- Diabetes and prediabetes
- Cardiovascular disease
- Gastrointestinal disorders
- Weight management
- Food sensitivities or allergies
- Neurological or cognitive health (if applicable)
- Monitor patient progress and modify nutrition plans based on clinical outcomes.
- Collaborate with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Document assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Educate patients on lifestyle modifications including healthy eating patterns, supplementation, and behavioral strategies.
- Participate in patient care conferences or case discussions when appropriate.
- Support preventive care initiatives and wellness programs within the practice.
- Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, HIPAA standards, and clinical documentation requirements.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or Clinical Nutrition.
- Credentialed Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Current state licensure (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
- Completion of an accredited dietetic internship or supervised practice program.
- Experience in clinical nutrition, outpatient care, or medical practice settings preferred.
Skills and Competencies
- Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) expertise
- Strong patient counseling and motivational interviewing skills
- Ability to interpret laboratory data and medical records
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Ability to develop practical, patient-centered nutrition plans
The pay range for this role is:
58,000 - 65,000 USD per year (Colleyville)
