About the Role
We are seeking an HR Generalist to provide dependable, day-to-day HR support across the employee lifecycle. The role of an HR Generalist at M&D is foundational to ensuring our employees feel supported, our processes remain compliant, and our systems stay accurate. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, responsive, and proactive—ready to jump in wherever needed to keep operations running smoothly. The ideal candidate brings a strong grasp of HR fundamentals, a passion for service, and the ability to balance routine administrative tasks with moments of meaningful employee connection.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions about HR policies, benefits, PTO, and company processes
- Manage the employee lifecycle: pre-employment paperwork, background checks, onboarding coordination, offboarding tasks
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HRIS data (we use Rippling!)
- Administer and track employee leaves (FMLA, ADA, personal leave) with attention to compliance and documentation
- Support benefits open enrollment and assist employees with benefits-related questions or changes
- Prepare employment verification letters, respond to audits, and maintain compliance documentation
- Partner with Payroll, IT, and other departments to ensure a seamless employee experience
- Assist with HR initiatives and process improvements across the team
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of HR experience in a generalist, coordinator, or operations role
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, and compliance (FMLA, ADA, I-9, etc.)
- Detail-oriented mindset with a knack for documentation and process accuracy
- Professional, approachable, and solution-oriented communication style
- Proficiency with HRIS platforms (Rippling experience is a plus!)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while staying organized and responsive
What Success Looks Like
- Employees trust you as a go-to resource for timely, accurate, and helpful HR support, and you respond with professionalism and care.
- HR processes run smoothly because you stay organized, meet deadlines, and proactively follow up on key tasks, such as onboarding, leave tracking, and record-keeping.
- Data integrity is second nature—you keep our systems informed, our reports accurate, and our documentation audit-ready at all times.
- Cross-functional teams rely on you because you communicate, follow through consistently, and collaborate well with Payroll, IT, Compliance, and more.
- You anticipate needs before they arise, solving minor problems before they become big ones, such as onboarding, leave tracking, and record-keeping and continuously improving how we deliver HR support.
- You embody our culture of accountability, operational excellence, and service, contributing to a high-performing and trusted HR function.
