Position Summary

The Pastor of Spiritual Formation will help bring hope to everyone by equipping the people of Menlo church to live out their identity in Christ every day. The Pastor of Spiritual Formation leads and supports the Central Spiritual Formation Team in this mission by assuring their success in Menlo-aligned goals through collaborative vision and strategy, clear communication and accountability, ongoing development and equipping directional leadership, and fun. The Pastor of SF works cohesively with campus teams, central teams, and mission partners (locally and globally) to ensure strategically aligned paths of Spiritual Formation at Menlo Church.

The Pastor of Spiritual Formation reports directly to the Executive Pastor of Ministries and serves as a contributing member of the Extended Leadership Team. The Spiritual Formation Team reports to the Pastor of Spiritual Formation and this role is responsible for managing this team.

Essential Functions

  • Embody a deep inner spiritual life that can serve as a pacesetter for our staff and church culture, helping them understand what an ongoing and lifelong pursuit of being formed into the image of Jesus looks like.

  • Provide effective leadership regarding the spiritual formation pathway. Develop immediate and long-term plans and build flexible and sustainable systems and processes for Spiritual Formation, which includes evangelism, connection to the Menlo Church community, local outreach, global missions, adult discipleship, groups, cohorts, care, and prayer.

  • Collaborate with Extended Leadership Team (ELT) and Session to further the vision and mission of Menlo Church. 

  • Collaborate to develop our discipleship standards and guidelines, constantly evaluating programs for health and effectiveness for each of the discipleship areas.

  • Must possess high-level analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills to be able to interpret and communicate the needs of the church and provide support for both immediate and long-term needs to support discipleship ministries at a multi-site church. 

  • Guide and equip staff to recruit, develop, and shepherd disciple-makers (which includes but is not limited to group leadership) and other volunteer ministry leaders.

  • Create, curate, and assess the best possible Spiritual Formation curriculum throughout the ministry environments of Menlo Church.

  • Set SMART goals and create a pathway to achieve Spiritual Formation results; meet with your team to coach, develop, hold accountable, and invest in each member, both in their leadership and their discipleship. Instill a posture of servant-leadership in staff to improve service to all campuses, congregants, and the broader community.

  • Manage budget and maintain good stewardship of church resources. 

  • Manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and intelligently delegate.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships by actively living out and championing our staff values and Menlo Church's mission.

  • Additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Servant and pastoral heart, a natural leader of leaders, and high emotional intelligence.

  • Formal education in Spiritual Formation or Pastoral Ministry (Master or higher preferred)

  • Proven track record of building teams and cultivating staff and volunteers for greater impact and a healthy culture.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Experience in discipleship and spiritual development.

  • Experience in building and managing volunteer teams.

  • Must meet eligibility requirements for ministerial licensing and obtain and maintain active licensing within 6 months of hire to participate in training and Church ministerial processes (e.g., baptism and communion).

  • Proficiency in Planning Center Online, Google Workspace, and Asana. 

  • Preferred skills include project management, ministry curriculum development, and Menlo Church spiritual requirements.

  • Must have an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Participation in weekly services at Menlo, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.  

  • Commitment to being a part of the community and serving at Menlo Church.

  • Must have compatible theology in alignment with ECO essential tenets.

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.

  • Light to moderate lifting may be required.

  • Regular, predictable attendance is required to meet with the public and team as business demands dictate.

Work Environment

  • Moderate Noice (i.e., business office with computers, phones, and printers, light traffic).

  • Ability to work in a confined area.

  • Ability to work with all team members during Sunday services and all staff meetings

  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal or desk for extended periods.

The pay range for this role is:

90,000 - 120,000 USD per year (Exact compensation may vary based on skills & experience.)
