The Meter Technician plays a vital role in supporting the installation and maintenance of utility submetering systems. This is a hands-on field position that requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Meter Technicians work directly with our Field Services team to perform installations, inspections, and service calls across the San Jose area.


Key Responsibilities

Field Operations:

  • Install, inspect, repair, and service water meters and related equipment
  • Perform accurate meter reads and respond to customer service requests
  • Complete site inspections and record detailed notes
  • Troubleshoot leaks, pressure issues, and system malfunctions
  • Pick up and deliver meter parts as needed
  • Maintain and clean assigned company vehicle
  • Submit timecards, expense reports, and daily paperwork on time
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and equipment is used appropriately

Location Support:

  • Maintain and organize inventory and storage space
  • Record inventory usage and delivery intake accurately
  • Participate in weekly vehicle inspections and toolbox talks

Skills and Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience in field work, construction, or maintenance is a plus
  • Registered Service Agent (RSA) certification required within 30 days of hire

Licenses and Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and clean DMV record (no more than one moving violation in the past three years)
  • Comfortable using tablets, apps, and inventory systems
  • Familiar with basic hand and power tools
  • Soldering or light plumbing experience is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and meet daily appointment targets

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to crouch, climb ladders, and walk multiple miles daily
  • Sit for extended periods while driving

Pay Rate: $25-$27/hr, DOE
