Position Overview:

As a Healthcare Data Science Intern, you won't just be "shadowing"—you’ll be an active member of our integrated team of developers, designers, and data scientists. You will help scale an AI that is already making a tangible difference in the lives of Canadians. This will be an in person role. You will work out of our Calgary office. The length of the internship is 4-12 months.

What You’ll Do

  • Expand Mika’s Intelligence: Develop and refine vocabulary and templates to tailor Mika AI for diverse medical specialties and provider workflows.
  • Monitor & Measure: Assist in building robust frameworks to track Mika AI’s performance, ensuring high accuracy and reliability in clinical settings.
  • Deploy Upgrades: Support the end-to-end deployment of model upgrades and new features to our production environment.
  • Collaborate: Work cross-functionally to translate clinical needs into technical data solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute as an active member of a cross-functional team of developers, designers, and data scientists
  • Help expand Mika AI’s intelligence by developing and refining vocabularies and templates for different medical specialties and clinical workflows
  • Work with and organize healthcare data under guidance from senior team members
  • Explore datasets to identify basic patterns, trends, and potential issues
  • Assist in building and maintaining frameworks to monitor AI model performance, accuracy, and reliability
  • Support simple statistical analyses or machine learning model improvements
  • Help deploy model updates and new features to the production environment
  • Translate clinical and user needs into technical data or AI solutions in collaboration with the team
  • Document work clearly and present findings or updates when required
  • Follow all data privacy, security, and patient confidentiality standards


Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Python and standard data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn).
  • Familiarity with NLP concepts or LLM fine-tuning is a significant plus.
  • A passion for healthcare innovation and improving patient outcomes.
  • Bonus: A strong understanding of and experience in the healthcare industry an asset.
