About the Role
The Property Accountant provides financial support to the Accounting Department by managing financial reporting, accounts payable, and cash management for assigned properties. This role ensures accurate and timely financial information while contributing to continuous process improvements that support company objectives.
This role will report to the Accounting Manager within the Finance team at the Mills Properties home office location in St. Louis, MO.
Pay: Annual Salary of $70,000
How you will be successful
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and maintain monthly account analysis.
- Manage property bank accounts by monitoring daily balances, recording cash-related transactions, and completing monthly bank reconciliations.
- Oversee the invoice process by reviewing invoices for accuracy and allocation, auditing vendor invoices for contract compliance, rectifying variances, and approving payments.
- Maintain the general ledger by processing journal entries, posting monthly revenue and expense accruals, and ensuring accounts are accurate before month-end close.
- Assist in monthly forecasting through report updates and analysis.
- Review and process monthly cash reconciliations.
- Approve, post, and commit payables weekly.
- Review, create, and distribute monthly and quarterly lender reporting per loan requirements.
- Prepare and submit annual workpapers; review completed tax returns, post adjusting entries, and tie out balance sheets.
- Coordinate annual and periodic property-related processes, including personal property tax and real estate tax tracking, and annual insurance invoicing and reconciliations.
- Process quarterly distributions for multi-property investments.
- Continually review and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency.
- Perform special projects and generate ad hoc reports as needed.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or a minimum of 3 years of full-cycle accounting experience.
- Strong financial acumen and a thorough understanding of GAAP.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Yardi/Voyager software preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly to all levels, including executive leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, share ideas, and contribute to a positive team environment.
