Mineralisation Intern

About Mission Zero Technologies

We’re a London-based climate-tech start-up, working to reframe how the world views carbon in order to enable a thriving planet. Since 2020, we have pioneered the world’s most versatile direct air capture (DAC) technology to recover historic CO₂ emissions from the atmosphere, anywhere, at any scale.

Backed by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, the XPRIZE foundation, Stripe, and the UK Government, we’ve moved a brand new climate technology from lab scale to commercial plants in under three years, to empower carbon removal and sustainable utilisation.

About the role

  • A 6-month paid contract with the possibility of extension
  • London-based with our flexible trust-based work policy / UK (hybrid from our London office and UK-sites)

As a Mineralisation Research Intern, you will be a key member of a focused team developing advanced mineralisation technology. Reporting directly to the Mineralisation Specialist, you'll carry out experimental cycles and laboratory testing with significant independence in your day-to-day work. The role requires clear thinking, adaptability, and sound decision-making as we advance our understanding of the technology.

You will develop practical experience in advanced mineralisation techniques while contributing meaningfully to technology development. The role provides direct exposure to focused R&D in a small team environment, where your work has immediate impact on project outcomes. This position suits someone who values hands-on experience and enjoys developing both technical expertise and practical problem-solving skills.

What you'll be doing

  • Work both independently and collaboratively to execute mineralisation experiments and contribute to process optimization initiatives
  • Perform sample preparation and materials characterisation, including developing and refining methodologies with scientific rationale
  • Collect, organise, and document experimental data and laboratory records
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment while managing inventory of consumables
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain good laboratory housekeeping practices
  • Support the preparation of technical presentations and reports
  • Work closely with the project leads in a small, focused team that values quick iteration and independent thinking, while maintaining connections with the wider DAC R&D team

  • Laboratory experience gained through academic projects or previous internships
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Good documentation and data management abilities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interest in climate technology and carbon capture solutions

Desirable:

  • Hands-on experience with mineralogical compositional techniques, specifically, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
  • Experience in sample preparation for mineralogical analysis
  • Understanding of data interpretation from these analytical techniques
  • Familiarity with materials characterization software and data analysis tools
  • Knowledge of Python or R for analytical data processing

What we can offer you
