ABOUT THE ROLE

Momentum Indoor Climbing inspires and empowers individuals of all ages to discover the joy of climbing. Our summer camps introduce young climbers to movement, problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence-building in a fun and supportive environment. Every week brings new participants, new challenges, and new opportunities to share a passion for climbing.

The Summer Camp Assistant Manager plays a critical leadership role in staff oversight, scheduling, risk management, parent communication, and daily camp operations. This individual must understand camp curriculum expectations, support counselor development, and ensure an exceptional experience for participants and families. This role reports to the Youth Program Manager (YPM), and ensures camps operate safely, efficiently, and at a high standard of quality.

This is a full-time seasonal role during the summer camp season.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Leadership and Team Support

  • Lead by example by modeling the Coach’s Code of Conduct and upholding all company policies and procedures.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented work culture.
  • Support, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to Camp Counselors based on observation and performance.
  • Step in as a Camp Counselor when necessary to maintain appropriate staffing coverage.
  • Communicate regularly with the YPM regarding operational progress, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in training and onboarding seasonal camp staff as directed by the YPM.
  • Identify operational improvements and collaborate with the YPM to implement solutions.

Camp Operations and Administration

  • Build and manage staff schedules, ensuring proper staffing ratios are consistently met.
  • Assist with shift coverage coordination and schedule adjustments.
  • Support camp check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Manage camp rosters, ensuring participants are fully registered, paid in full, and have signed waivers on file.
  • Field and resolve camp-related parent questions and customer service concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure camps are adequately stocked with necessary supplies and snacks.
  • Review employee timekeeping for payroll accuracy.

Risk Management and Safety

  • Ensure all counselors and participants follow Momentum’s Codes of Conduct and safety standards.
  • Actively monitor camp activities to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Address safety concerns tactfully and professionally with staff, participants, and families.
  • Process and report incidents according to company policy.
  • Support a culture of safety accountability among camp staff.


REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Experience, Skills, and Certifications

  • Minimum 2 years of climbing experience required.
  • Demonstrated passion for climbing and enthusiasm for sharing it with youth participants.
  • Experience teaching, coaching, or leading youth programs required.
  • Experience in bouldering, sport climbing, and traditional climbing preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple time-sensitive responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage staff, give feedback, and handle parent communication with empathy and professionalism.
  • Comfortable using phone and computer systems; familiarity with Google Workspace preferred.
  • Experience with registration or point-of-sale systems preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Hours and Availability

  • Full-time seasonal position, approximately 40 hours per week.
  • The schedule generally follows daytime camp hours, with a mid-day unpaid lunch break.
  • Must be available during regular business hours throughout the summer camp season.

Environmental and Physical Demands

  • Work in a loud, high-energy gym environment daily.
  • Comfortable working at height and moving up and down climbing walls safely.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces.
  • Able to balance, kneel, pull, push, and grasp objects regularly.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable instructing and speaking to large groups.
  • Able to sit and work at a computer for administrative tasks as needed. 


COMPENSATION, BENEFITS, AND PERKS

  • Starting pay of $20.00/hour, depending on experience.
  • Seasonal employees are not eligible for company insurance benefits.
  • Complimentary membership to all Momentum locations during employment.
  • Summer Camp staff who successfully complete the full agreed-upon camp season and remain in good standing will receive a 4-month individual multi-gym membership following the conclusion of their seasonal employment.

The pay range for this role is:

20 - 20 USD per hour (Fort Union)
