Financial Controller

About Mytra:

We’re creating an entirely new way to solve the most ubiquitous problem in industry - moving and storing material. We’re applying robotics and distributed software to create a new class of product for this $1T market. We’re focused on the supply chain industry first. The industry is in a massive bind with the continued growth of e-commerce, sharp rise in costs, and supply chain disruptions. What has been a “sleepy” industry for decades is now at the epicenter of sustaining the global economy.

About the role:

Mytra is seeking a Controller / Director of Accounting to build the foundation of our financial operations. This is a critical role for a hands-on leader who has successfully navigated the complexities of hardware manufacturing accounting—specifically regarding Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)—and is ready to apply that rigor in a high-growth startup environment.

In the first year, you will be the primary architect of our transition from outsourced accounting to a robust internal function. You will lead our first external financial audit, drive the financial requirements for our new ERP implementation, and partner deeply with our supply chain and manufacturing teams to optimize cash flow and product costing. As we scale towards Series D, you will be responsible for hiring and developing a best-in-class internal accounting team.

Responsibilities:

Financial Operations & Leadership

  • Oversee Operations: Manage day-to-day accounting operations (including Payroll, AP, AR, and Month-End) and oversee the transition and management of our 3rd party external accounting partners.
  • Strategic Partnership: Collaborate cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Legal, and other departments on ad-hoc projects including forecasting, customer P&Ls, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Business Impact: Go beyond traditional entries to drive business results, such as cash flow improvement projects, working capital management, excess inventory analysis, and driving improvements on billing rates.

Audit Readiness & Compliance

  • Audit Preparation: Prepare the organization for its first external financial audit by establishing audit-ready processes, documentation, and comprehensive internal controls.
  • GAAP Compliance: Ensure strict compliance with GAAP and relevant accounting standards; implement rigorous month-end and year-end close procedures to support audit requirements.
  • Investor Support: Coordinate with external auditors and support investor reporting requirements.

ERP Implementation & Systems

  • System Launch: Lead the end-to-end implementation of our new ERP system and supporting operational systems (procurement, manufacturing, payroll) as the primary finance representative.
  • Process Architecture: Collaborate with Operations and Manufacturing stakeholders to gather requirements, ensuring the system meets business needs while establishing correct GAAP requirements and process documentation.

Team Building (Year 2 Focus)

  • Scale the Function: Strategically migrate all external accounting functions in-house. Hire and scale a high-performing internal team (including Tax, Audit, Financial Systems, and Cost Accounting) to support Mytra’s strategic growth.

Qualifications:

  • Hardware Manufacturing Experience: Deep experience in a hardware manufacturing environment with a specific focus on the COGS side of the business (inventory, supply chain, product costing).
  • Senior Leadership: Proven experience as a Senior Manager, Director, or Controller with the ability to own the function autonomously.
  • Technical Mastery: Strong knowledge of GAAP and the ability to set accounting requirements for complex operational flows.
  • Audit Experience: Demonstrated ability to manage external audits and establish internal controls from the ground up.
  • Operational Mindset: Experience improving processes in AP, AR, and Expense management to bring them to "best in class" standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • "Big to Small" Trajectory: ideally, you have experience working for a large, structured company and have successfully transitioned that expertise into a dynamic startup environment.
  • ERP Implementation: Experience driving ERP implementations, specifically the ability to collaborate effectively with system architects and external consultants to design financial workflows.
  • Strategic Wins: A track record of delivering business results beyond compliance, such as successful cash management initiatives or product costing accuracy improvements.

A Final Note:

You’re encouraged to apply even if you can’t take on every example project in its totality. We work closely and collaboratively at Mytra - No one takes on projects alone. We seek people who are eager to work together, learn new things, and bring unique perspectives.
