About the Role

Nema Health is seeking a Medical Director to provide clinical leadership across our trauma-focused treatment program. This is a full-time executive clinical role responsible for ensuring high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care delivery while partnering closely with operations, therapy leadership, and executive teams to scale Nema’s model nationally. This role will report directly to Nema’s Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer. 


The Medical Director will provide direct patient care, guide quality and safety initiatives, and shape the strategic direction of medication management within trauma-specialized care.


This role is ideal for a mission-driven psychiatrist who combines clinical expertise with a systems-level mindset and is energized by building and leading within a high-growth organization. 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Oversight

  • Serve as the psychiatrist to the clinical team, ensuring the highest standards of trauma-informed, evidence-based psychiatric care
  • Provide clinical oversight and consultation across clinical services
  • Establish and maintain clinical protocols that support consistent, high-quality outcomes across states and programs
  • Support clinical risk management, safety planning, and escalation pathways for complex cases
  • Spend approximately ~40% of your time in direct patient care conducting evaluations, and ongoing medication management
  • Scale and develop the prescriber team as needed to meet organizational growth and patient demand
  • May provide one night or weekend day of clinical back-up phone coverage

Care Model & Program Development

  • Collaborate with therapy leadership to ensure integrated, coordinated treatment planning across psychiatry and psychotherapy
  • Contribute to the evolution of Nema’s trauma-focused care model
  • Support the Senior Clinical Director as needed in development of new clinical programming, workflows, and specialty pathways as Nema grows

Quality, Outcomes, and Clinical Operations

  • Champion measurement-based care and outcomes-driven protocols across the organization
  • Monitor clinical quality metrics and support continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, telehealth best practices, and organizational clinical policies
  • Own the development of data-informed root cause analysis frameworks, leveraging insights to improve clinical outcomes, provider performance, and care continuity

Strategic & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Support growth team efforts on driving national provider referrals 
  • Represent Nema’s psychiatric vision internally and externally as the organization scales nationally

Qualifications

You’ll be a great fit if you are an:

  • MD or DO with completion of an accredited Psychiatry residency
  • Board certified in Psychiatry (or board eligible with timeline to certification)
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in at least one U.S. state (multi-state licensure strongly preferred)
  • Valid DEA registration
  • Significant experience in outpatient psychiatry and medication management.
  • Deep commitment to trauma-informed, patient-centered care
  • Familiarity with measurement-based care and outcomes-focused treatment models.
  • Strong operational mindset with ability to collaborate across clinical, operational, and executive teams.
  • Excellent communicator and culture-builder in interdisciplinary settings.
