Nema Health is a high growth PTSD and trauma care startup led by clinicians and survivors. Our mission is to guide trauma survivors at every step of their journey towards healing, starting first with the remote, intensive delivery of cognitive processing therapy (CPT).
Nema is seeking a Head of Finance to join our leadership team. The Head of Finance will reinforce Nema’s ability to be a financially successful behavioral healthcare services company. At Nema, we firmly believe that we can build a business that is clinically impactful and financially sustainable. We also believe that our team and people are major components driving our success. The Head of Finance will own, shape, and run with the financial needs Nema has, and will influence the people operations of the business along with the rest of the Nema leadership team. Therefore, the ideal candidate for this role is someone with a sharp financial background and experience scaling a team or company. This person will report to our COO and will be a core member of the executive team.

Responsibilities
Forecasting and budgeting
- Build and own Nema’s cash flow forecast, P&L forecast and budget, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the company’s objectives
- Track actuals against forecast and report on variance; distill recommendations to the team based on the reports in a proactive manner
- Monitor capital needs and manage cash flow to support ongoing operations
Financial KPI management and reporting
- Run revenue and Accounts Receivable reporting in partnership with Nema’s billing and RCM department
- Track time to collect for Nema’s invoices and payer claim submissions and oversee all aspects of RCM
- Closely monitor and drive favorable decisions for Nema’s unit economics/gross margin, contribution margin, and LTV:CAC ratio in a values-driven way
- Update, maintain and report out internally on Nema financial performance
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the broader Nema leadership team to influence business strategy, operations, and growth initiatives as it impacts finances
- Evaluate all key contracts to optimize Nema’s financial position
Investor Relations
- Pull financial reports for investor requests and board meeting and summarize with key insights
- Maintain relationships with investors, board members, and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and confidence in financial performance
- Drive future fundraising efforts, including Series B and beyond, by preparing financial models, due diligence materials, and investor presentations
Accounting and Tax
- Serve as the point of contact to our vendors by providing material and answering questions (Pilot for bookkeeping, EisnerAmper for taxes, and Rippling for payroll taxes)
- Guide the team to adhere to company policies for reimbursements and utilization of Nema’s paid tools
Company Leadership
- Live Nema's mission and values and be an example to the rest of the team
- Support and mentor other team members as an experience operator
- Partner with COO to implement best practices for compliance and HR
- Play a key role in bringing best practices on team and company management to Nema so the company can foster a strong culture that enables high quality output across the teams
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
- 5+ years experience in financial management or financial services (corporate finance, banking, accounting, PE, VC, finance roles at other startups)
- 3+ years of experience working in the healthcare industry and ability to understand the P&L of a care delivery company
- 3+ years of experience as an operator, in conjunction with finance roles or otherwise
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic insights using spreadsheets and other key tools
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to present financial data to executive teams, investors, and board members
- Demonstrated leadership ability with a track record of driving financial performance and operational excellence
- Savvy people management skills and experience instilling best practices for organizational behavior
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment and adapt to evolving business priorities
- Excellent attention to detail and impeccable organizational skills
- Sharp problem solving skills and positive, solution oriented attitude
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently in a remote work environment
Preferred
- MBA or CPA
- 7+ years experience in financial management or financial services
- Deep understanding of health insurance contracting and reimbursement methodologies, particularly for value based contracts and related to billing & RCM
- Proven success fundraising
- Tableau, PowerBI, or experience with similar tools
- Previous experience working in a healthtech startup
- Understanding of the Friendly PC - MSO corporate structure
- Passion for mental health and expanding access to treatment through insurance
Nema Health is a seed stage company backed by top healthcare VCs. This is a full time, exempt, salaried position reporting to the COO with a dotted line to the CEO. Compensation will be determined by the candidate's experience and qualifications, with a base salary range of $160,000-$210,000. The full-time compensation package will include competitive equity, unlimited PTO, a healthcare stipend, a 401(k) with matching, an annual education stipend, an annual “work from home” stipend, and paid parental leave. This role is remote and the candidate can be located anywhere in the United States.
