About nesto and Nesto Cloud

Nesto is Canada’s leading provider of mortgage technology and financing solutions, managing $73B+ CAD in residential and commercial mortgages, with 1,000+ team members across 12 offices nationwide. You will be working on Nesto Cloud, Canada’s most advanced cloud platform, delivering end-to-end technology solutions for lenders in the digital age.

Why we are hiring

We deliver on our mission by empowering our partners to improve and streamline their mortgage lending operations with the nesto Mortgage Cloud. As Canada's most advanced cloud-based mortgage technology, our SaaS solution offers a best-in-class omnichannel experience. This platform consistently drives volume, boosts productivity, and lowers technology costs. To ensure the successful execution of our upcoming projects, we are expanding our Solution Architecture team.

Work location and time zone

We welcome applications from candidates located anywhere in Canada. This is a fully remote opportunity, with the flexibility to work from home or from any of our offices (Montreal, Quebec, Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver, and others). Please note that the core working hours for this role are based on the Eastern Time Zone (EST).

What success in this role looks like

Success is defined by your ability to translate business requirements into clear, scalable solution blueprints for the nesto Mortgage Cloud. This includes proactively mitigating technical risks and advocating for modern architectural best practices like Microservices and Domain-Driven Design. Ultimately, you will succeed by collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners while ensuring all designs strictly adhere to established enterprise standards.

What you’ll be doing

  • Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications, diagrams, and data models to drive the solution development.
  • Design an end-to-end solution blueprint for new products, platform enhancements, and integrations.
  • Evaluate and select tools, frameworks, cloud services, databases, and integration patterns for specific solutions (and not for the platform as a whole).
  • Ensure all proposed solutions strictly adhere to established enterprise architecture standards and the overall technology strategy.
  • Communicate architectural designs and the trade-offs involved clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Manage risk by proactively identifying and mitigating potential technical risks and challenges within the design.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams, including Product Managers, Developers, and QA.
  • Engage with external partners and vendors for integration design.
  • Promote and advocate for modern architectural best practices, including Microservices, Domain-Driven Design, and Event-Driven Architecture.

Who we are looking for

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a dedicated Solution or Software Architecture role.
  • Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures and major cloud provider platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP), with a preference for GCP.
  • Experience designing and implementing reliable Microservices architectures, including good practices for API design (like REST/GraphQL) and inter-service communication.
  • Strong hands-on experience and advocacy for Domain-Driven Design principles and Event-Driven Architecture, including patterns like event sourcing and Command Query Responsibility Segregation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical designs to both technical (developers, engineers) and non-technical (Product Managers, business leaders) audiences..
  • Committed to staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends, and continuous learning.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies and software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Preferred but not a must

  • Experience in start-up or scale-up environments.
  • Bilingualism in French and English.

You shouldn't apply if

  • You are not interested in a role that involves frequent client-facing work or high-level stakeholder negotiation.
  • You have no passion for the fintech or mortgage technology space and are unwilling to develop domain expertise.

Interview Process

  • Recruiter Screen – 30 minutes
  • Discovery Call with the hiring manager – 30 minutes
  • Take-home Assignment / Case study followed by a Presentation and Q&A – 60 minutes
  • Final Non-Technical Interview with additional stakeholders – 60 minutes
  • Criminal Record and Reference Checks + Offer

The Reward

The A-Team: Work alongside high-performing talent in the industry.

Accelerated Growth: The slope of your learning curve here will be vertical. You will touch more production systems in one year than you would in five years at a bank.

Top-Tier Coverage: Premium benefits plan fully paid by nesto, including comprehensive insurance and unlimited access to telemedicine and mental health services for you and your family.

Rest & Recharge: 4 weeks of vacation to ensure you stay at peak performance.

Best-in-Class Tools: Access to the resources and tech you need to execute without friction.

Working framework: the environment that makes you productive and enables teamwork.
