Nesto Cloud

Senior QA Automation Developer

About us

nesto is a Canadian fintech founded in Montreal in 2018. Our mission is to offer a positive, empowering, and transparent property financing experience, simplified from start to finish. We started as a digital broker using technology to bring transparency to the mortgage process, then built Canada's leading direct-to-consumer online mortgage lending platform, where qualified mortgage experts are backed by advanced technology. At nesto, we build the technology that makes mortgages in Canada faster, simpler, and more transparent, and we ship at real speed.

We've since grown into a full mortgage ecosystem, serving large financial institutions across Canada as a B2B partner. Our first B2B product launched in 2022 with IG Wealth Management. In 2024, nesto acquired CMLS Group, forming the nesto Group (nesto, CMLS, and its subsidiary brand Intellifi). We now have 1,300 employees across 12 offices nationwide and $73 billion CAD in residential and commercial mortgage assets under administration.

Why we're hiring

Our growth means new development teams, and every team includes a Senior QA Automation Developer (I or II) as part of its core structure. We also want to keep improving our QA practices, so we need someone who can strengthen automation, raise quality standards, and shape how our teams build and deliver software. This role reports to the Engineering Team Lead. Your daily tech stack will include Playwright, Postman, Datadog, Docker, ArgoCD, GitHub, TypeScript, and MySQL. As noted in "What You Bring," we don't expect you to have worked with all of them.

Work location and availability

This remote-first role is open to candidates across Canada. Work from home or from any of our offices, including Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Ottawa, and Calgary.

What you'll be doing

  • Architect, build, and maintain robust, scalable automated test suites using Playwright, applying industry best practices and design patterns to ensure long-term maintainability.
  • Partner with developers and product managers across the SDLC to clarify requirements, catch gaps early, and define acceptance criteria during Agile ceremonies.
  • Drive quality across both UI and API testing, leveraging monitoring signals, incident reviews, and customer feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Leverage AI in innovative ways to support and accelerate QA automation development tasks.
  • Take ownership of broader quality outcomes by staying involved beyond test execution to improve processes, documentation, and team workflows.
  • Bring a continuous improvement mindset to the role, staying current with new tools, technologies, and testing methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Staff QA Automation Developers to improve processes and QA practices across the organization.
  • Work with product managers to define comprehensive test plans from design documents, such as PRDs and HLDs.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for key projects, for example when we integrate new partners/clients.
  • Review and execute manual test cases and scripts for features under development using test management/tracking tools to provide feedback on automation suitability to the project team.
  • Manually validate features based on test plans and integrate those scenarios into the automated regression test suite.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of QA experience testing SaaS or cloud applications, with a deep understanding of the full SDLC and how quality engineering fits into the development process.
  • 2+ years of hands-on automation framework experience with Playwright, Cypress, or similar, with a proven ability to author, maintain, and scale end-to-end (E2E) test suites.
  • An automation-first mindset, with a track record of prioritizing automated coverage over manual-only QA and building reliability into the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Full-stack testing capability across UI and API layers, including experience with tools like Postman for API validation, ensuring comprehensive coverage at every level of the stack.
  • Test architecture and scalable design expertise, with the ability to build maintainable automation suites using industry-standard design patterns (e.g., Page Object Model, data factories, separation of concerns).
  • Agile fluency and tooling experience, including comfort working in rapid delivery environments with frequent release cycles, and familiarity with test management platforms like Allure TestOps for reporting and tracking.
  • A strong background in TypeScript and/or Go is a plus, as is experience with MySQL or similar relational databases.

This role might be for you if

  • You approach automation with a software engineering mindset, applying the same rigor, design patterns, and scalability standards a developer applies to a core feature.
  • You're a "Shift Left" advocate who clarifies requirements during planning, long before the first line of code is written.
  • You take a data-driven, holistic view of quality, moving past basic UI tests to use API testing, system signals, and customer feedback to find improvements.
  • You're AI-forward and technically curious, and you experiment with modern tools to sharpen your strategy and increase your impact.
  • You keep improving how the team works, and take ownership of processes and documentation without being asked.

You shouldn't apply if

  • You're primarily a manual tester and don't want to architect automation or learn new technologies.
  • You prefer a reactive, waterfall approach where you wait for development to finish before getting involved.
  • You want a narrow, fixed-scope role where you run tests rather than challenge requirements and find gaps.
  • You prefer to work in isolation and don't want to improve broader team workflows, documentation, or quality processes.
  • You're not ready to bring AI tools into your daily work.
