Nesto Cloud

Senior Quality Assurance Analyst

About Us

Founded in Montreal in 2018, nesto is a Canadian fintech company on a mission to make property financing positive, empowering, and transparent from start to finish. We began as a digital mortgage broker and became Canada's leading direct-to-consumer online lending platform. Through Nesto Cloud, our B2B, cloud-native, end-to-end mortgage technology platform, we empower financial institutions, credit unions, and commercial real estate lenders with intelligent automation, real-time compliance, and seamless integrations across the full lending lifecycle. Together with CMLS Financial, we form the Nesto Group: more than $73 billion CAD in residential and commercial mortgages under management, 1,300+ team members, 12 offices across Canada.

Work Location and Time Zone

This is a remote-first role open to candidates anywhere in Canada. We strongly prefer candidates who can work Eastern Time hours. If you are based elsewhere in Canada and have worked Eastern hours before, we still want to hear from you.

Why This Role Exists
We need someone to support the tactical side of QA delivery by bridging the gap between component-level testing and end-to-end validation before client UAT. Working closely with a Senior QA Automation Developer, this person will help define what should be automated, prioritize test coverage based on client impact and business rules, review automation results, and support bug triage, product follow-up, and client updates during UAT. Our team uses the following tools on a daily basis: Playwright, Postman, Datadog, Docker, ArgoCD, GitHub, TypeScript, and MySQL.

What This Role Is Not

  • This role does not require someone to be a strong coder and may not involve coding as a core part of the job. It is not the right fit for someone looking for a fully hands-on automation engineering role.
  • This is not a role for someone who prefers a reactive approach and waits for development to finish before getting involved.
  • This is not a role for someone who prefers to work in isolation and doesn't want to improve broader team workflows, documentation, or quality processes.
  • This is not a role for someone who isn't ready to bring AI tools into their daily work.

The Career Path For This Role

  • Automation track: an opportunity to grow into a more hands-on automation engineering role over time.
  • QA coordination track: a path toward QA coordinator or test lead-type responsibilities, with more ownership over testing coordination and delivery.

What Success Looks Like

  • Within 90 days, you've built pre-UAT test coverage and scenarios, and are running that coverage independently with a clear read on where gaps remain.
  • Within 90 days, you're actively owning bug triage and tactical coordination during UAT, closing the loop with the client.
  • Within six months, you've helped define what should be automated and why, working in close partnership with the automation function so coverage decisions are shared rather than siloed.
  • You consistently contribute to test strategy and coverage decisions, not just execution — making sure quality holds up end to end, not just sprint by sprint.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Design test coverage and scenarios ahead of UAT, validating that the solution solves the customer's actual problem, not just individual feature specs.
  • Partner with developers and product managers across the SDLC to clarify requirements, catch gaps early, and define clear acceptance criteria.
  • Break down business and data requirements from product and design specifications (URDs, PRDs, HLDs) into comprehensive test plans.
  • Recommend what should be automated and why, working closely with our Automation Developers to shape coverage rather than build it yourself.
  • Investigate automation failures and follow up on results, flagging gaps and priorities.
  • Work with Delivery leadership and stakeholders to prioritize testing and coverage against client needs.
  • Own tactical bug triage and coordination during UAT, acting as a primary point of contact for client-reported issues.
  • Review and run tests using test management tools, giving the project team feedback on automation suitability.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of QA experience in a Senior Quality role, testing SaaS/cloud applications, with a deep understanding of the full SDLC and how Quality Engineering fits into development.
  • Strong end-to-end and functional testing experience, with the ability to evaluate a solution from the customer's point of view, not just against a spec.
  • Cross-module investigation skills – comfortable tracing an issue across multiple systems or teams to find the root cause.
  • Experience coordinating testing tactically during high-visibility periods (e.g., Pre-UAT, UAT), including tickets, status reporting, and resolution tracking.
  • API testing experience using Postman is a must – this is a technical role, though hands-on coding is not required.
  • Comfortable reviewing automation run results and investigating failures (e.g., reviewing CI/CD pipeline runs like GitHub Actions) to understand what's covered and what isn't, even without writing the automation yourself.
  • Agile fluency and comfort with rapid release cycles.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in a fast-paced, innovative SaaS environment (startup-to-scale-up) rather than slower-moving industries.
  • Comfortable working extensively with PRDs and understanding the weight they carry in sign-off and approval.
  • Some coding background or interest, which could open a path toward automation work over time.

Interview Process

  • Recruiter Screen (30 min): An intro call to learn about your background and give you a real picture of the role.
  • Discovery Call (45 min): A conversation with the hiring manager to dig into your experience and assess mutual fit.
  • Take-Home Assignment: A chance to showcase your skills through a practical exercise relevant to the role.
  • Case Study Interview (60 min): A deep dive into your submission, with time to get to know some team members and ask about the role and company.
  • Final Interview (60 min): You'll meet with the recruiter and two additional stakeholders for a final conversation before a decision is made.
  • Offer Stage: Pending successful background, criminal, and reference checks, you'll receive a formal offer to join the team.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Top-tier extended health, dental, and vision coverage, featuring 100% drug coverage.
  • Health & Wellness Spending Account: A $1,500 combined annual flex fund for things like gym memberships or extra medical needs.
  • Generous Paid Time Off: 4 weeks of vacation plus 8 personal floater days.
  • Retirement Savings: Access to a group RRSP/DPSP plan featuring competitive company-matching contributions.
  • Telemedicine Services: Access via Dialogue and coverage for licensed practitioner services.
  • Family Support: Robust Maternity and Parental Leave Top-Up programs.
