About the role

We’re looking for a hands-on Maintenance Technician, Press to support our compaction/press operations. This role is ideal for a tool and die setter who enjoys working on high tonnage presses and wants to deepen their expertise in specialized press operations while also contributing as a senior level maintenance technician across the plant.‑on ‑tonnage presses and wants to deepen their expertise in specialized press operations while also contributing as a senior‑level maintenance technician across the plant.

You’ll spend a significant portion of your time focused on press setups, changeovers, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance. When the compaction/press team is stable, you’ll flex into broader maintenance and equipment reliability work—helping keep critical production equipment running safely and reliably.

What you'll do
Press & Tooling Setup / Operations (Primary Focus)

  • Set up and tear down press tooling and dies for production and development runs, following setup sheets and standard work.
  • Perform tool and die changeovers efficiently and repeatably, including alignment, shimming, and verification of clearances.
  • Inspect tooling and dies before and after runs; identify wear, damage, and potential failure modes and escalate or address as appropriate.

Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Repair

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues on presses and related equipment (feeders, conveyors, vacuum systems, lubrication, guarding, etc.).
  • Respond to line down / high‑priority issues, safely triaging and restoring operation while driving toward permanent fixes.
  • Work with external vendors/technicians as needed for complex repairs, upgrades, or rebuilds.

Preventative Maintenance & Reliability

  • Execute and improve preventative maintenance (PM) routines for presses, dies, and auxiliary systems (cleaning, lubrication, inspections, adjustments, calibration checks).
  • Help build and use PM checklists and maintenance logs; capture failure history and recurring issues.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to increase uptime, extend tooling life, and reduce unplanned downtime (lubrication changes, component upgrades, spare parts strategy, etc.).

Cross Functional Maintenance Support‑Functional Maintenance Support

  • When press/compaction demands are lower, serve as a senior maintenance technician on broader plant equipment (e.g., ovens, grinders, pumps, vacuum systems, basic utilities equipment, material handling).
  • Assist with equipment installs, relocations, upgrades, and commissioning, including utilities tie-ins, and dry/wet runs.
  • Partner with engineers and technicians to implement continuous improvement projects (safety, throughput, OEE, and ergonomics).

Safety, Documentation & Standards

  • Rigorously follow lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and all other EHS policies when servicing or setting up equipment.
  • Contribute to and follow SOPs, maintenance work instructions, and press setup sheets; suggest updates as processes evolve.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records in the CMMS (work orders, parts used, downtime causes).
  • Support a clean, safe, and organized work environment (6S); actively participate in safety audits and root cause investigations.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: 5+ years in a manufacturing maintenance or tool & die role, with hands‑on experience as a tool & die setter or press technician across mechanical, hydraulic, powder compaction, or injection molding presses.
  • Press & Tooling Skills: Strong capability in press setup and changeover, including die installation, alignment, and basic electrical connections.
  • Technical Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, tooling prints, tolerances, and basic GD&T.
  • Troubleshooting & Measurement: Hands‑on troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and proficient use of precision measurement tools to verify tooling and part conditions.
  • Maintenance Capability: Proven ability to perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs independently, with the capacity to quickly learn new equipment, systems, and controls.
  • Work Style & Flexibility: Strong safety focus, effective communicator, able to work independently and cross‑functionally, and willing to support off‑shift or weekend work during critical needs.

  • Experience with metal powder compaction, high tonnage presses, or other specialized pressing processes.
  • Background in tooling for press operations such as:
    • Metal stamping / progressive dies, or
    • Injection molding tool changeovers and maintenance, or
    • Powder metal compaction tooling installations
    • Powder metallurgy
    • Other high-pressure forming processes.‑pressure forming processes.
