ABOUT THE POSITION: 

The Senior Associate position will collaborate with AHG team members to provide strategic support on client accounts, ensuring our work consistently aligns with our clients’ business development, policy, go-to-market, and fundraising goals.


This role is designed for a professional who wants to use their knowledge and network to help entrepreneurs transform markets and scale new products and technologies. The ideal candidate has a proven background working in climate and/or energy, comfort with sales and business development processes, can go deep into the policy, regulatory, and market weeds as needed to drive business outcomes, and is also an effective networker and advocate with strong political and business instincts.


WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Become an expert in the policy, regulation, and markets that will shape a sustainable future from building and industrial decarbonization to electrified mobility and grid resilience.
  • Build relationships and trust with AHG’s clients who include startup founders, VC partners, and corporate leaders.
  • Take on account planning and workflow management to put points on the board for relevant AHG clients.
  • Support AHG’s clients externally and advance their interests with key stakeholders as if you’re an extension of their full-time teams.
  • Craft thoughtful, detailed written memos and presentations to advance business outcomes for AHG’s clients, including comments and testimony before state public utility commissions and other federal, state and municipal regulatory bodies.
  • Lead policy and regulatory research and analysis to support go-to-market, regulatory, and business development strategies for our clients.
  • Leverage your expertise and network to help our clients develop and execute the right policy and go-to-market strategies to advance their business goals.
  • Deliver business results for AHG’s clients, including closing deals and affecting regulatory outcomes.


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in the energy industry working for a startup, consulting firm, investment firm, utility, and/or in government, and demonstrated a clear trajectory of increasing responsibility and excellence. Bachelor’s required. MPP, MBA or related Masters preferred.
  • Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge in at least one relevant vertical (e.g., building electrification, advanced transmission, resilience, e-mobility) and a hunger to expand your knowledge in other areas.
  • Functional Expertise: Deep knowledge in sales and go-to-market related functions (e.g. sales operations, enterprise sales, product marketing), and/or energy policy and regulation (e.g. state PUC regulation, ISO/RTOs), and a commitment to learning both functions.
  • Communication Mastery: Exceptional research, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence external stakeholders and C-suite executives alike.
  • Outcome Ownership: A track record of pursuing and delivering measurable business outcomes with an owner’s sense of urgency and relentlessness.
  • Startup Mindset: Demonstrated comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where processes and organizational norms are still being defined.
  • Team Work: You are a “yes-and” person who is positive, motivates those around you with your enthusiasm, and resolves disagreements quickly and empathetically.


LOCATION:

Strong preference for candidates based in an AHG hub city: Washington D.C., San Francisco, or New York City. AHG is a hybrid/remote firm. Team members in hub cities are expected to be in the office at least one day a week. Up to 10-15% travel is expected for client work and team retreats.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary Range: Starting pay for this role typically ranges from $115,000 to $135,000 commensurate, with skills and experience. Final pay is determined based on factors such as experience, geography, internal equity, and other job-related considerations.
  • Bonus & Equity: This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus (targeting 10%+) and participation in the company’s Equity Incentive Plan, which provides employees an opportunity to share in the future growth and success of AHG and its clients. 
  • Benefits: Comprehensive medical/dental/vision,  401(k) with an automatic 3% employer contribution, $1,500 annual professional development stipend, 14 weeks fully paid parental leave, and flexible PTO.


INTERVIEW PROCESS AND TIMELINE:

  • Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis through May 27.
  • Interviews will take place in June and July. 
  • Finalists will be asked to complete and present a short skills assessment.
  • Depending on feasibility and location, final in-person interviews will take place following the skills assessment presentation. 
  • We expect to extend an offer in mid-July.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
